Small Plants (First Grow)

This is our first grow and we are having a couple of problems. We are growing 4 wonder woman and 3 white widows started from Nirvana seeds.

We think the plants seem rather small for their age. They are all between 3” and 6” tall and are 6 weeks old. Is this a normal size for these strains at this age?

One of the White Widows has always had wrinkly twisted leafs.

We have always had an issue with low humidity (20% all the time). We have tried humidifiers both in and out of the tent but it makes no difference with the exhaust running.

They are in a 4'x4' grow tent under two 6 lamp t5 light fixtures with grow bulbs. The day time high in the grow tent with lights on peaks at 87 and the low around 75 with lights off. They are on a 18/6 light schedule.

They are growing in 75% coco 25% perlite with added dolomite lime in 2gal pots. We are using a General Organics “Go Box” nute kit now at full strength. We water on average every 3 days. We use RO water and ph to between 5.8 and 6.0 each time we water.

We would really like everyone’s thoughts on the plant size and humidity issue. Thank you.

2 gallon pot that is part of the small issue

as for your humity ......those air bags/smart bags/fabric bags with handles for plants........they release the water into the air .......if u are having heat issuses with them low and a good intake on them of cool air will help make sure the roots are not stressed and the bags keep my tent around 50 (except when it rains for 2/3 days in a row )

the plants will also stay kind of small as they grow and then in flowering they streach out .....atleast with my strain that is what i have seen berry ryder

if u want to grow drop your jawl open that tent just want to live in the little forest go with 5 gallons or even 7 gallons but rem the bigger the bag the bigger the bush later so 4x4 figure 4 plants

I can't offer too much advise as to the strains, but I can say that I have similar conditions and am having success. I've got dry, warm conditions, and am using T5s and the GO Box. I'm by no means a pro, but I've got a journal if you'd like to check that out and learn from my mistakes.

If I were to suggest anything, it'd be to add blackstrap molasses to your feeding regimen.

Good luck and happy growing!

ive had the same problem with the twisted leafs in the past and in the end i give up on the plant and killed it as it grew like the strangest way i have ever seen a ganja grow

put a tub with water in, in the room to increase humidity

plant pot size is ok the rough estimation is 1 gallon per 4 weeks of growing i use 10litre pots and they get me from cutting to full plant with no problems

Justugh - The plants have only been in the 2gal pots for 2 weeks. They are not showing any roots out the bottom of the pots yet. We plan on getting them into 5gal pots next weekend. We hope that the 5gal pots will take them through the rest of the grow. We are in AZ so its hot and dry as can be. We have tried buckets of water and humidifiers to get the humidity up but it just doesn't work. Thank you for the suggestions.

Jus Naturale - Thanks for the black strap suggestion. We will look into it as well as your grow journal.

Nitro1990 - We have a bucket in there now and it isn't doing a thing. Even with a humidifier in the tent the humidity didn't budge. It is just so warm and dry here I think we will have to deal with it. We plan on transplanting into 5gal buckets next weekend. I hope they will get us through the rest of the grow. The strange growth on one of the White widows is still there but not as bad. She may always have it but otherwise looks good. Thanks.

They look super healthy, after a transplant top growth slows down alot since the plants roots are more of a focal point to fill in.5 gal. should be fine through flower that's what I am in also. Smartpots are the shit I would definitely look into them.
I am assuming in Az you may have high temps in the grow room which can lead to a bit of stunting.I would be proud of the health they look great.

I grow mostly kush and I get twisty leaves all the time(means nothing) You have a very nice crop coming along there. I would however repot them into bigger pots.

1. 2gal is plenty big enough for the little guys.
I rather doubt they are root bound at that size.
But im not sure whats going on they should be much bigger being 6wks old.
White widow is a slow plant, but if memory serves me it was not the veg that was slow just the flowering stage.
I grew nirvana's white widow and 2 other strains by them years ago and WW took around 10+wks of flower to finish.
And in the end was not happy at all with Nirvana genetics.

2. Molasses would be a waste at this point, It is recommended to use it around wk5-6 of flower not veg.
At this point in growth it is not going to do much if anything at all.

3. I would do my best to get that temp down around 77-80
Your temps are a bit high, the plants may be fine but almost 90 is not optimal.

Are you letting the soil get dry before watering?
I ask because if you are watering before the soil gets dry the plants wont produce a good root ball.
That would cause slow growth.

Thank you Sohighfly. They are looking a lot better that they have.We have had our share of issues but have worked through them. We will try to lower the temp in the grow room closer to 75. These guys took off when we first transplanted them. They were in solo cups way to long. That is probably a big part of the size issue. Oh well live and learn.

Popcorn900 - Thank you for the compliment. This being our first ever grow we don't really know what is correct. We will be getting them into 5gal pots soon.

Budfever - They are on the small side that's for sure. As stated above they were left in solo cups way to long and have been growing a lot since the transplant. We just didn't know what size they should be. Hopefully the growth will continue. I can't say I was happy with the Nirvana seeds out of the 10 only 8 sprouted and one seedling never really did anything after sprouting. We will do our best to get the peek daytime temps below 80. Hard to do when its 110+ outside. We let the coco dry about 3/4 of the way before watering each time.

We tested the ph of the run off last night and it seems rather high. It ranged between 6.5 and 7.3. We ph the nutes to 5.8. Any thoughts?

We have tried a cool mist as well as a warm mist humidifier in the tent with no change Blowincherrypie. We have also hung towels and left buckets of water in the tent. Nothing is working. It's a bit aggravating.
