Jars are for proper curing. I like to cure for 3 weeks to a month. They will regain smell and the nasty harsh smoking experience will diminish as the buds cure. It will also gain some potentcy and smoothness as it sits and looks pretty. If you run into the buds after curing and they are to dry add some fan leaves to rehydrate it to your liking. Correct me if I am wrong please. I think the only thing light will do while drying is give your buds the risk of molding.

Light degrades thc. Thats why most people recommend drying in a cool dark place with some air circulation. Also molds and fungus thrive just fine in dark areas, infact, the "root system" of fungus are usually underground (called mycelium). The main thing in preventing mold and fungus is good air circulation when your drying (or a dehumidifier keeping thing below 50% rh), as they require humid areas to thrive.

To the original poster, if your buds have a funky smell and smoke thats not similiar to what they smelled like when growing, I would do a close inspection for mold. These things typically smell fucking nasty, and smoking them is not healthy at all.

my mycelium lives in quart jars;) suspended in honey and karo! Will short bursts of some light from looking at your plants dry affect them? I would think not. If they were in a room with constant light that would be a whole different thing. I wouldnt want to smoke a freshly dried bud as it will taste like shit, burn going down and not have the same smell it had or the full potential of its thc content. If its moldy it will have a white fluffy growth.

sometimes if theres nitrogen late in flowering it can smell funky. also if you cut it down while the soil is wet there is going to be more moisture in the nugs, possibly molding.
