Smell

Hey I've been wanting to grow indoors for a while now but the one thing keeping me from doing that is my concern about the smell. I'm probably going to grow in my closet, anyone have any suggestions to keep the smell out? Is there maybe a grow box that keeps the smell in? I'm not worried about the smell coming through when I water/check on it but I can't have it smell constantly. Any help?

Well, if you plan on going deep into this, with an allotted 200-300 dollars, then you an get a carbon filter for about 90 which will remove all odors before expelling it through your ventilation system.

Yea its either that or get one of those things that spray that shit out in the restrooms to remove odor.It might not be as good as the carbon filter but it helps.

First thing to do before you plant a single seed is to line the closet with plastic. They also sell giant zippers at hardware stores for a complete seal. This will keep the smell from saturating wood, stud, drywall, etc. You'll never get that smell out otherwise. More importantly, this will allow you to determine where the air/smell goes when it leaves the closet. You don't want smell sneaking into some unseen gap, then coming out in your bedroom, etc.

Equally important is an intake and exhaust. They need some bends in them or other means to keep light from coming in or out. Ideally the exhaust will exit your house as high up as possible through the roof. If not, then keep it up as high as possible, and as far away from windows, neighbors, etc. You'll want a fan to exhaust the air, and not rely on gravity.

If there is still a strong odor, you may need to invest in a carbon filter. There are threads here showing how to make them, but not sure how well they work. If you have the money, then just buy it, rather than screw around. If the smell gets out of control, you can plug the intake and exhaust until you can install a bigger filter etc.

I believe smelling, telling or selling is how you get busted. There are so many awesome strains to pick from on the internet, don't bother with bagseed unless it's from an incredible bag.

Good luck, and enjoy. Seeing your first big bud, is fucking awesome.

one suggestion is to grow a strain that doesnt give off alot of odor.one example is nirvanna snow white. the skunk varieties seem to give off the most odor ,hence the reason for being named a (skunk )strain.my snow white does smell but not very bad at all .i mostly notice it when i disturb the plants etc.a little febreeze does the trick in my situation.only have three plants going but there monsters!

Air fresheners, sprays, etc. just mask the odor. You may need some of that in addition to the carbon filter.

However, you definitely need ventilation, or your plant will not be able to "breathe." The enclosure needs at least 5-10 air changes per day. The more air changes, the better.

The carbon filter will scrub the air as it exits the enclosure.

ur exhaust fan should constantly draw fresh air giving a negative pressure.( i grow in a tent and u can see the effects of this by the way the walls of the tent are alway pulled it) this stops most of the smell stick in a decent carbon filter( the more expensive the better but again if ur only growing a small amount then u dont need to go overboard)and stick a few airfresheners around the door/house etc.
