So does alchol decarb THC or not?

The first article states clearly that you have to decarb weed before making a tincture, the second one says the alcohol does the job for you.

So what is it now? "There's more than 1 way to skin a cat" really doesn't apply to this. Alcohol decarbs THC or it doesn't.

How do you guys make your THC tinctures (with 95% ethyl alcohol)? Decarb or not? And how long do you soak your weed? Some of these "guides" say 3 days, others say a month....

  1. When infusing alcohol

Alcohol cannot be brought up to a high enough temperature to properly decarb weed, because it will simply evaporate, so tincture is instead made by soaking the buds for a great length of time. It’s a slow process of extraction that can take several weeks to complete, but all of that time will be for nothing if you don’t decarboxylate the cannabis before you make it."

Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) exists as tetrahydrocannabinolic acid (THCA) until it is decarboxylated, usually with heat. The nice thing about the extraction process is that the alcohol bath dissolves the THCA, decarboxylates it into THC, and preserves the resultant material so that it won’t spoil. Alcohol does all three of these things at the same time…all without heat."

#2 is pure bullshit. #1 has errors but it's right about the decarb.

If you want a full plant type of tincture, then you want to let it soak for 4 or more weeks but if it's the cannabinoids from the trichomes you're after whether for meds of just getting high then a quick wash with ice cold alcohol is what you want to do. QWISO if using isopropal alcohol or QWEtOH if ethyl alcohol is the solvent. The pot will need to be decarbed first if being kept as a tincture but if the extract is to be evapped and used as oil then the decarb can better be done after the alcohol is gone.

A lot of evidence coming out about how the acid versions of the cannabinoids may have even better effect for a lot of conditions without so much of a buzz so higher doses could be used without turning the patient into such a space cadet. I think the next batch of oils I make will be a 50:50 mix of decarbed and not-decarbed THC and CBD.

Is it really true that alcohol won't decarb thca? My internal organic chemist is screaming something about acid catalyzed hydrolysis... I think if you were to store it in alcohol for some months it would completely decarb no?
