Hey Everyone,

Well after 11 years of living in Switzerland I've decided it's time to try and make it somewhere else.

I'm currently hesitating between Toronto and Montreal. Have never visited either.
FWIW I'm 24 and will be going back o uni to do an MBA or something.

I knew the differences between Quebec and Ontario (and pretty much the rest of Canada) but I'd appreciate anything you can share with me regarding either or both of these cities, especially regarding

- marijuana consumption and growing (duh :D)
- opportunities for entrepreneurship, small businesses, etc.
- cost of living
- general safety
- climate
- variety of things to do
- cuisine
- "art and fashion" for the wifey

and just the general "vibe" of each city.

Thanks in advance RIU :)

LOL I'm not expecting everyone to share on every point. Just share anything about either city and I'll be happy :)

I'm really serious about moving. Already contacted lawyers in both provinces. Just have to make a choice.

What the MJ scene like in Toronto? tolerance to growing/smoking?

Please guys and gals, help me out here.

I lived in toronto and was born in new brunswick, ive been to and thru montreal quit a few times,
montreal is alot older,
the look is old but vibe is young,
great food, fancy and traditional
amazing fashion,
great schools,
amazing clubs,
amazing weed
if u want to start a business u may need to learn french ,Quebec is close and they don't speak english, well very few do.
Its a very busy place

Toronto, well its
clean
food, pick it we got it
people are less friendly then in montreal imo
lotsa great weed
great schools
art/fashion is big, very big
also ontario is HUGE!! so may places and activities depends what u like to do

both get VERY cold and lots of snow, safe as u make it (depends on area your in and people you hang with)

toronto is gonna giev you that big city feel. but only not as big as most cities as the states, but it has everythign you could ask for
montreal may represent a language barrier for sure, as most speak english but will take some time to get used to the accent. both are amazing cities with great cultures. toronto isnt as cold, and get alot less snow. im sure you could be happy in either. give ottawa a visit also. all are great cities

Wow this is the kinda feedback I'm looking for! thanks and keep it coming.

I'm actually blessed in a way since I've lived in the french-speaking side of Switzerland I'm fluent in both national languages

So it's safe to say that Toronto is more similar to the US?

Vancouver is nice, but Canada is all about small towns. Much like Toronto and Montreal... Nice to visit, don't want to live there.
But if the city is what you want, then it's a good toss up. I've heard Montreal parties pretty hard, but there's a lot of stuff going on in Toronto.

Toronto Freedom Festival - 20,000+ strong (*Picture the 4:20 cloud*)
Toronto Hemp Company
Hot Box Cafe in Kensington Market
Friendly Stranger
Kindred Cafe
Sacred Seed Co.
Medical Marijuana Expo
etc.

Lots of concerts, the CNE.

Well I definitely want more of a big city vibe, so I'm leaning more towards Toronto.

How easy is it to buy bud there? do you have to be Canadian to have access to Medical MJ?

Toronto seems like more of what your looking for ( you can drive the 5 hours to montreal anytime)
I'd say very easy. just stroll around and sniff lol u will find someone lol j/k no but i've moved 8 times in the last 5 yrs due to work and only gone a few days at most dry. Just be friendly and go to the right places, we have a cafe or two that sell headshop stuff. U can also sit and smoke your stuff. I did smoke at the vapour lounge a few years back when they had decriminilized weed well posession of 1oz and under, But wont push my luck.
Being bilingual is great in toronto, i am and i have better job opportunities and they pay more!!!
SOOO many great things like "the taste of the danforth", CNE , Pride festivals, TIFF (toronto international film festival)
The city is always a buzz, insane amount of small random stores, Rogers center for concerts and games, The streets get closed for car races by the lake.
Depending where u decide to live rent/mortgage can be pretty cheap, i say can because the closer u get to the core of the city the more expensive places get
exemple my brother works at Toronto airport- he bought a house in oshawa (about 40 min driving on hwy 401) he paid about 200 000$ for a 3 bedroom in the suburbs, its and older house -early 1900- compared to the 500 000$ my friend paid for a house from the same time but 10 mins from the airport.
lots of new condos are going up in toronto. If u have Any questions about Toronto ask away, i lived in the area for over 20 yrs
oh ya can't forget about the subways, go train, go bus, they have pretty good public transit, runs until 2 am , well did
