So many seeds, so little space...

Greetings friends!

Check on all of the following:
x New here
x About to start my first grow
x Been lurking but not very long
x Newbie in general

So, having read up a bit on cannabis in general, CBD and what not I decided it was time to take the jump to first of all see what it can do to help my depression and general bad feelings inside myself for quite some time now. Have some memories how a smoke changed my mood over night some years ago. Since I'm in Scandinavia and "don't have the right contacts" just trying different varieties isn't that easily done.

Also, having yet another man dying of cancer, even if not in my immediate family, I wanted to prepare for the future so the Rick Simpson option would be more available would it be needed once more and I had a say in it.

Sorry for this long winded intro, here's the deal: I went on a shipping spree here around Christmas since many seed shops had all kinds of deals and season specials. So including some freebies (which are all interesting to me) I'm now, or at least soon hope to be, sitting on no less than 14 different strains, all but one of the autoflower version also (the exception is the low THC Dinamed). Yes, if I could undo some of them but... It is what it is.

I have a Mars 3x3' (or 98x98cm) grow tent where it's all supposed to take place eventually, cheered on by a yet unassembled DIY cob-kit featuring 4 Vero 29C's and a HG-320. So yes, not crazy much light but this thing has run away in expenses in anyway (about 350 Euros just for the lights from Kingbrite, incl. customs - shipping is a killer!).

So again, the seeds were rather cheap and I have mainly 1 or 2 of each (some are 3 from Dinafem), and I wan't to sample as many of them as possible in my first grow. I don't care very much about optimum yields, I just want to find the strains I feel work the best for me, in one way or another. I have 3 and 5 gallon smartpots on their way (cheap China versions from ebay) but could grow in other smaller things too of course.

So... ()

One option is to grow 9 seeds in 9 x 3 gallon pots. But that will leave out 5 strains...

Another crazy idea I got last night was to grow most of them in pairs in the 5 gallon pots, so two (different) seeds would share one pot and be sort of on one half of the pot each. Then I would have room to grow 2 Dinamed's (who are photo's) in two separate pots and keep them going after the others (who are autos) are finished.

So I guess this was the long-winded road, plus a first hello, to come to the last two lines there. Too dumb?
Any thoughts are of course greatly appreciated.
Wishing everyone a great start to the new year!
Cheers!
/Tom

Over ambitious I think. You could do 9 plants, but it won't be worth it, imo. 4 autos in that tent will overwhelm it and and really hurt the health of the plants and buds since they will be so pack in they won't be able to breathe. I have 4 autos in a 4x4 tent and they fill it up from side to side without any wiggle room, so a 3x3 is really going to be pushing it. Watering, feeding and maintaining the plants will be harder also if they are crammed in too tight. And never grow more than one plant per pot.

I also would not try to grow photos as the same time as autos. Autos thrive on longer periods of light so most people go 18 or more hours of light, some people go 24 hours with no dark, whereas the photos need to be 12 hours light 12 hours dark to flower.

Thanks for your kind input Kerovan.

Yes I hear you. I guess somewhere my dreams and hopes have to come crashing into reality... Better before starting the grow than during. ;) So I think 4 then should be very doable. Maybe even five, with one in the middle... I guess it's all down to me having the difficult time chosing which ones.

Yes I understand growing autos and photos at the same time is far from optimal. I was thinking that the autos could survive (sure, not thrive) on 12/12 once I thought the photos were big enough, and after the autos were finished just keep on going with the photos... But I think yes, better scrap that idea. Too... :p It all had to do with me having to finish this before June or so and after that it won't be until autumn maybe, if at all, that I can start another grow.

Maybe I'll start a thread elsewhere listing my strains and then see if anyone has any input on which, if any, might be good choices for depression? I'll have a look around the forum some more. Thanks again. :leaf:

Skipping to start any new threads, after some intense reading on the forum and growdiaries but mainly on Leafly, I have the first four down:

Dinafem Sour Diesel Auto (this seems like number 1 to me!)
- " - OG Kush CBD Auto
Fast Buds Blue Dream'matic (possible 2nd)
- " - CBD (Green) Crack (hate that name)

The two CBD's are on there not only because of (but to at least some degree) their presumed higher levels of CBD, but the original strains in themselves seem potent to deal with depression and anxiety.

Then I have three runner up's for the fifth place that I just can't choose between and would appreciate anyone's input on (all are Fast Buds Autos):

Gorilla Glue
Pineapple Express
Tangie'matic

Not quite making the list but hanging out just outside are Mexican Airlines (not so much info on that one out there), Star Dawg (I love that name!), GSC (all three Fast Buds) and Amnesia Haze XXL (Dinafem). So any thoughts on them are greatly appreciated also of course.

I guess, I can't go very wrong with any of them. Unless I get some less desirable phenotype - or more likely me messing it up in the grow! :p I'm shelfing the Dinamed for now so no mixing of autos and photos, thanks for helping me with that one.

If I do get to sample any results I would like to think I will report back my findings, both here and on Leafly.

Hey man, that's a good idea, didn't think of that really. However having so little space and so many itchy seeds, and finally coming over the idea of growing the Dinamed photos (they were like the main reason initially), I will stick with just the autos for my first test run. Then fill the tent with 2 - 4 photos some time later. I wouldn't mind trying Super Lemon Haze then also since it calls to me intuitively and as I understand it citrus/lemony terpenes can have some positive influence on depression also.

And seeing this thread https://www.rollitup.org/t/dinafems-dinamed-cbd-thin-layer-chromatography.952873/ with the CBD/THC ratio coming out to 1:1 instead of like 20:1 I became more peaceful also. ;) I have two 1:1 (or whatever) CBD strains among the autos I will try so it will have to do for now.

Many thanks!

Hey . I wouldn’t do more than 3 plants in that 3x3 .i learned on my first grow the hard way I put 5 in there and it was horrible . They all competed for the light and don’t underestimate the stretch . They really do stretch man . You’ll yield more and better quality if you give them space . Good luck with your grow

Hello brother and thank you for your kind wishes and advice. :) So were those autos on your first grow or photos? I'm thinking or at least hoping that these autos of mine will not be too Sativa-ish in their height.

Being very sensitive for this stuff and also not planning on smoking/ingesting it every day, I think I need very little from each strain to keep me busy for a year or more. Sure, if quality would suck and the THC, CBD and terpenes would fall into the basement then yes that would obviously be a problem. But if it's only a somewhat decent smoke even if not the most potent or compact buds, I will be very happy. 5 - 10 grams from each plant and I would be stoked! :bigjoint:

I mean couldn't you do sort of the opposite of super cropping - instead of torturing the branches to get more you instead make it a short process by just cutting them off!?! AIming for a big main cola and maybe like 3 - 4 colas/branches per plant? Or this could kill it perhaps? I mean at least it wouldn't get so crowded in there...

Again just shooting off some newbie thoughts here, but I guess they're not the same as pruning my perennial apple or cherry trees in the garden.

Still waiting for everything to arrive but it's more or less only the China pots left... Why oh why did I try to save a few $$$ there when it's like nothing in the whole budget anyway? But leaves more time for entertaining some wild ideas... 8)

Thanks again!
