Welcome to my first grow journal. Comments are welcome! I’m doing this to document my current grow and possibly solicit input on my next grow as I’m preparing to switch from soil to hydro (coco). I will also be using an LED for the first time along with a new line of nutrients. So a lot of change ahead. Pull up a chair, light one up and join the conversation.

So here’s my current setup....
Strain: Nirvana Original Glue (Gorilla Glue 4) and OG Kush (I happen to like Nirvana. Their strains may be boring to a weed snob, but they germinate, they take credit cards, they have some nice strains, and good shipping)
5x5x8 Gorilla grow tent
1000 watt Metal Halide during veg and HPS during flower and 2 UVB lamps for trichome production
Switching to Timber Grow Lights (3 3vl) in one month....hopefully sooner. A special shout out to @Flatrate who helped me with that difficult LED decision.

Soil is Fox Farms Ocean Forest
Nutrients are Nectar for the Gods (using sampler from their website)
Supplements are CalMag, recharge, Terpinator or Purpinator, Silica
Plant training. Uncle Bens topping for 4 colas (advanced section sticky....topped above #nd true node) and LST

I vegged them for 7 weeks from sprouting. They are in week 4 of 12/12 lighting.

That’s where we stand today. I’ll update as I make progress with this grow.

A taste of my next grow that I am preparing to start on February 1st. These are Sativa dominant strains, so I really need to control the stretch.

Strains: Nirvana Jock Horror, Raspberry Cough, Black Jack, Sour Diesel
Media: coco coir bricks (need to be hydrated, rinsed and buffered twice). Planning on 70% coco and 30% perlite.
Container: 7 gallon fiber pot
Nutrients: General Hydroponics Flora Series
Supplements: silica, calmag, Purpinator
Lighting. 3 Timber 3VL (900 watts at the wall of cobs)
Seed starting: Jiffy pots (new to me)

So that’s what the next 4 months will consist of. I am relying on www.cocoforcannabis.com and www.growweedeasy.com to learn how to grow in coco coir.

I normally sprout my seeds and maintain my seedlings in the grow tent by upping my humidity and temperature. I’m looking for a plan to get the seeds started and vegging outside the tent while I finish my grows. Finally....the missing piece to my germination table has arrived. I’m hoping that I can keep plants in this environment for 4 weeks (1 week as seed in jiffy pot, 2 weeks in 16oz solo cups, 2 weeks in one gallon containers). It has plenty of vents for seedlings phase.

I hope this works! It is an 18 inch tall lamp. I will keep the vents open once they sprout. Any concerns??? Please stop me if you see a flaw in this plan.

Oh, and when the LEDs get here, I’ll install this phat filter upgrade too.

Today is the last day of week 4 (since flipping to 12/12)

Fed the ladies today and noticed some yellowing in the lower leaves from the 12/12 switch. Looks like they needed a little more nitrogen than they were getting from the NFTG. Added .5ml/gallon of DynaGro grow formula to give a little extra nitrogen. I know it defeats the “organic” aspect of NFTG. I prefer to keep the plant green up until I decide to fade my nutrients. I like the NFTG, but it’s difficult to figure out how to use it to take corrective actions compared to a simpler 2 or 3 part fertilizer program.

Plenty of room in the tent. I’ve always run 4 plants in the 5x5 due to the weakness of the light around the perimeter. That should be solved with the new LEDs that are coming. I might try running 6 plants next time with the new lighting.

Maybe 5 more weeks to harvest? I find Nirvanas “difficulty rating” system inaccurate. These have been very easy to grow, yet they are deemed difficult or medium difficulty. If they were Sativas or Haze strains, I might understand simply since they run longer.

Yep....same here. I think Flatrate deserves a commission. Haha
Now your talking!!!!!!!!!! Just kidding I don't want a thing. I am just happy with people getting a decent light and helping spread the word about Timber. @RainDan and his crew are second to no one, they work hard to provide a top notch product. Wait till you see them in person, they are flawless, wiring is nice, neat, and uniform. Build is solid as all get out, crisp corners, straight lines, what else can I say!

As we already know your 3 VL's are equal to my Fatty VS. Your grow style looks similar to mine, you should easily be able to run 9 plants. In a way I was disappointed with my last run because I had space for 2 more.

I’m really excited to get them up and running! I looked for hours and couldn’t find one bad comment about Timber. After chatting with Dan, I felt like this was the right light system for my needs.

You boys are a level beyond me, lol but I'm hoping to just grow great meds without drama.

FastFreddi...no drama here! Lol. I’m an old retired guy who doesn’t have time for drama. If you start up a journal, I’m sure we can help answer questions along the way. Growing is an addictive hobby.

Good Morning Flatrate!

Yep...my state limits me to 6 flowering plants, so I have to draw the line there. But I can veg for 2-3 more weeks and 6 plants should fill that tent.

my biggest concern on the next grow is moving to coco. It requires daily feeding, so I might have to rig up a watering system in the tent. A little extra space could come in handy too.
