So who here is growing in true organic living soil?

A friend of mine came by to help with some work here. Last time I gave him a bunch of soil amendments to take care of his spider mite problem. Today he's bug free and ready to take the ROLS plunge. That's what it's all about for me. That's why I want to streamline the soil recipe even further, using local Michigan amendments. More people need to grow this way.

The Base - This is the core of the soil

1/3 Sphagnum Peat from Premier Peat or Alaska Peat
1/3 Aeration material (pumice and lava rock) http://www.ebay.com/itm/Normal-Pelle...item48573e3886
1/3 EWC Much better to use your own worm compost, but you can do that later.

Per Cubic Foot of the above Base Soil, (That’s 2.5 gallons of each of the above) add the following:

The Mineral Package: Very important. This provides years of slow mineral release.

3 cup Charcoal (activated) GET LOCALLY. Crush Bagged charcoal (not Kingsford)
4 cups Rock Powders (4X Glacial, 1X Bentonite Clay, 1X Pyrophyllite Clay, 1X Basalt)
Glacial- http://www.gaiagreen.com/rockdust.html
Bentonite Clay (Calcium)- http://www.groworganic.com/fertilize...ments.html?p=6
Pyrophyllite Clay- http://www.vitalityherbsandclay.com/...-products.html
Basalt- http://cascademineralsnw.com/consumer.html

1 Cup Sul-Po-Mag http://www.amazon.com/Natures-Wisdom...words=sulpomag

The Lime Package: 1/2 cup this 3 part lime mix:

1/8 Cup powdered dolomite lime http://www.sea-of-green.com/nutrient...mite-lime.html
1/8 Cup agricultural gypsum http://www.amazon.com/Espoma-Organic...ultural+gypsum
1/4 Cup powdered oyster shell http://www.amazon.com/Pacific-Pearl-...m/B007DL0AGI/2

The Nutrient Package: The microbes will get busy storing this stuff.

1/2 Cup Neem Meal (2 g / L) http://www.neemresource.com
1/2 Cup Crab Shell Meal www.OrganicGrowers.com
2 Cups Kelp Meal www.OrganicGrowers.com
2 Cups Fish Meal http://www.amazon.com/Down-to-Earth-...arth+fish+meal
2 Cups Fish Bone Meal http://www.amazon.com/Dr-Earth-722-3...ords=fish+meal
1/2 Cup Alfalfa- GET LOCALLY

1 cubic foot = 7.5 gallons.

Optional: Moisten with Fresh Aloe (2 Tbs Juice with 1 gallon water) and Accelerant Tea (Comfrey, Yarrow, Horsetail or Nettle)

I pre-inoculate with BTI http://www.thatpetplace.com/mosquito...FYxcMgodrQsA8A and Nematodes http://www.naturescontrol.com/thrip.html#pn

Let this rest for 4 weeks.

GOOD OVERALL SOURCE TO CHECK OUT: http://www.groworganic.com/fertilize...ments.html?p=6

Here's my arsenal for pests:

#1 Vermicompost. Fresh stuff will help protect both the soil and leaves.

#2 Neem Meal- Also good nutritionally when it decomposes, this is a great pest suppressant, especially in its whole form. http://www.neemresource.com

#3 BTI dunks Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis bacteria. Mosquito dunks. Any hardware store has mosquito dunks. These feed on larvae. http://www.thatpetplace.com/mosquito-bits-larvicide-36oz?gdftrk=gdfV2226_a_7c268_a_7c6967_a_7c196070&ne_ppc_id=1463&ne_key_id=26452429&gclid=CLTRrJ_2gLkCFYxcMgodrQsA8A

#4 Nematodes- These will travel around in search of larvae to infect and explode. http://www.naturescontrol.com/thrip.html#pn

#5 Crab Shell- The shell contains chitin. This attracts bacteria that eat chitin, and these bacteria multiply like crazy. Larvae have jawbones made of chitin. Bacteria then eat the jawbones. Shell releases a lot of great minerals and Calcium also. www.OrganicGrowers.com

There are some mods and substitutions, but that's a great mix IMHO.

Best- best- best thing you can do is get a worm bin. Makes the grow better, cheaper . Also better and cheaper. Because not only is it cheaper; it's also better.

I was looking into cheap alternatives to Cannazyme which is
a enzyme based root melter. (for lack of brains enuf for a better term)

I was wondering what the above might do to benefit a soil pile that
includes a lot of old roots and veg material.

Just a thought. I found that "pond cleaners" might be such a product.

Thanks for any feedback.

....esp the cool Buckaroo variety. It is fun to figure out. :0)

its 'wheat bran' with a twist--

http://www.planetnatural.com/wp-content/uploads/pond-zyme-msds.pdf (note cautions)

http://www.bing.com/search?q=ingredients+of+pondzyme&form=MSNH14&refig=793df482f5a94e63968f3cc62e1aab0d&pq=ingredients+of+pondzyme&sc=0-20&sp=-1&qs=n&sk

I prefer 'bokashi'--its faster and safer and more natural--the japanese have been using it for thousands of yrs...

yea its all but the breakdown isnt it? (soluble) --ask murf

--now your gettin it-
yeah its 'baller' chit--shhhhhh (its really just the way they 'used' to do it)---the right way

what size container did you jump to?
---they are like fish...the bigger the 'aquarium' the bigger the fish

you have the same chances if you have a 1lb or 1oz plant--as long as you follow the 3 simple rules of silence and stealth ---[not telling you to break the law...read disclaimer]

(and don't listen to all the fear the 3ma shills are spewing they are all breaking rules for their profit while telling us different..its virtually impossible to follow the rules here by design of the lawyers pullng everyone around by their dicks on rollerkates)
[except for their dispensary friends/clients]

-rule #1...never tell or show ANYONE!!
-rule #2...never tell or show anyone
-rule #3...same as rule 1 and 2
and--
-rule #4...never say the word 'pot' and 'sell' in the same sentence--[ole hippie proverb]---(if you grow good erb people will offer you $$ for it--you don't have to look for people to buy it)

--and I would add be safe try and follow the rule in your respective state if they can be followed--(unlike here unless you have cpu lawyers[liars] in your pocket trying to help you bring your dispensary online)

and on the buckaroo odds chart now-a-days I give everyone a 70/30 they will be ok..mayb even 80/20 or 90/10 (if they follow the rules)----[see above]

there are tens of thousands growing now everywhere and in Michigan we have thousands growing and jumping on everyday

---->>"now what to do with all the 2 and 3 ft tall plant just going into flower??" (??)

--just add good clean water and keep reading and consulting with the 'buddha'--->(rrog)

me>>??

I >still< don't know anything....
--i learn somthing everytime i do a cycle

...like chess you may know how to play the game but it will take you the rest of your life to be truly good and a master--and the more you play the better you get

never listen to folks that tell you they have been doing it for yrs and know it all--impossible to know it all

its the life long journey where each step you learn more...

when you take your last breath you will know it ALL
