Quick question. i was wondering about SOG grows. i noticed that where ever i read about them they're almost always done in a Hydroponic setup. is it posible/practical to do an SOG in Soil? what are the benefits / drawbacks.

any info is always greatly appreciated.

roots grow crazy in soil, in hydro you can control the roots, you'll get much smaller plants if you don't have them well spaced and they could have many other problems. you could put plastic dividers between the plants

I dont get it. no disrespect...but why would one put plastic dividers between the plants? what would that help achieve?

mondaypurple is assuming you are planting in one container. You can certainly do a SOG in soil. The reason why you only read about SOG in hydroponics is because with that medium you get the highest efficiency.
I'm seriously considering doing a soil based SOG so if you are interested in discussing further or perhaps starting our own thread send me a PM.

on my first grow i ended up doing a SOG without even realizing it. I had about 10 plants and they never got passed 2 ft got about 10-12 grams per plant and thats with not enough lighting (used CFLs)

Ill be once again doing this just with my new powerful CFLs i got

I recomend it for soil

Major drawback is in soil grows. Especially SoG you may not use all the nuts in the soil. For example (feeds plants for up to THREE months) and in SoG you can do it in 2.. were as in hydro.. water is cheaper then buying good quality soil.. and if u have to use your own nutes it helps dvenly distribute them.. tho im a Soil/CFL grower myself.
