SOG planning 5x5

So I’m planning on a perpetual type SOG grow. I will be using a 3x6x6 closet to hold my mothers, and to veg my clones. I plan on using a 5x5 tent for my flower room, doing 16 plants total in coco coir. However, I will only be vegging 8 plants (enough to fill half of the tent) at a time with a 30 day veg period. Then when I move those 8 to the flower tent, I will immediately start vegging another 8 for 30 days, then move those to the flower tent, and on and on it goes so that every month I am harvest half of the tent.

So my questions are: Will 16 plants in a 5x5 be to many?
Should I implement any sort of training techniques (topping/LST)?
Are there any tricks that I can use to speed up the process of taking pH/PPM measurements instead of manually collecting runoff from each individual pot?
Also, if there’s anything else I haven’t thought of, please let me know, this will be my first attempt at SOG, so I value any input and advice.
Thank you, Deck

Sog you wouldn’t top or lst you want to lollipop um, I read somewhere a long time ago that you shouldn’t go over 1plant per square foot so if that’s still accurate your plant count should be fine. Over a sq ft a plant produces more stem than bug

how big of pots do you plan on using? 16 plants seems like a lot for 5x5 unless you are using 1 gal pots which at that point would totally not be worth it. You could fill out a 5x5 with 5-6 plants with proper LST and topping a few times.

the maintenance on 16 would Be overwhelming and could cause a possible slip in quality.

with PH of your soil, depends on your pockets but blue lab has a pretty neat soil tester for about 180$

if hes doing sog 1 gal pots are fine with coco.
even promix. plants will stay small if veg is short but watering later in flower will be an issue. i know guys who run 25 in 5x5 flip a few days after transplant and get a couple colas per plant. not my style but it works. i have 16 in a 5x5 with 4gal pots. not.much elbow room and yes maintaining it is time consuming but its a labour of love.
yes sometimes comprimises are made but overall itll be worth the effort.

I’d be down to run bigger pots and less plants. I’m just in the planning phase right now and this would be my first attempt at SOG. My main concern is keeping veg time 30 to 40 days at the most. How many plants you think I could run with those veg times?

another related question:

ive never ran mother’s or pheno hunted before. My plan was to just pop a ton of beans and then just take 1-2 clones from all of them once the plants from seeds veg out and then keep the clones in the veg room until I find the males, then discard those clones. Then let the original plants from seed flower for a bit, then discard all the clones except the ones that came from the best pheno. Only problem is that’s like 20 clones to start with.
Is there a more efficient way to do this?
how early will I be able to identify the males?

That's how you do it, clone EVERYTHING, stay organized and keep the best. There are some good photo guides online with close up pics of the male and female cannabis anatomy, they're easy to spot once you've seen a few.

awesome. How long will it take to figure out if they’re male or female? Im doing a SOG so I will most likely only be vegging for about 30 days

Watering a bunch of plants in a SOG can be done very easily using a capillary watering mat. Watering from the bottom through the use of capillary systems has been done for decades in large scale nurseries. Cannabis can be grown the same way. Most people never think of that type of irrigation because they can't get past the concept of no run off. Runoff isn't needed if you are feeding properly.

What is your end goal? Is this personal meds?

in a 5x5 if it’s just for me 6-7 plants why bother with the extra stress of it’s just for personal, in my opinion. Grown right in a SOG or SCROG you can harvest plenty to tide you over till your next 6-7 plant run

personal and for friends who need it medicinally. I’m physically disabled and go to support groups and a lot of people can’t afford to get the medicine they need, so I help them out. I don’t mind the work, I’m unemployed and I miss the day to day grind of working. With that being said, The main appeal of the perpetual SOG is that if I mess something up I have another crop to work with.

on a side note: maybe I am starting too big too fast, how many plants would fill a 5x5 with a 30 day veg from clone?

I myself am doing a SCROG in a 4x4 with 4 plants in 7gals, you can judge off that. Really it’s the care and technique you use you could grow two plants and come out with a pound with the right care and genetics. All up to you man! If you are willing to work for it, run it with trial by error! Good luck dude!
