SOG planting density - # plants per square foot???

I'm in the middle of my first hydro SOG. Aeroflo 60, 2k hps, Cotton Candy.

The first go round I only ended up with 42 clones available so that's what I planted. I vegged them under t8 cfls for 3 weeks so they were about 8-15 inches tall before putting them in 12/12 under the HIDs in the AF60.

I was originally planning to fill the system to max capacity with 60 plants each crop but now I'm second guessing that. In my reading on RIU and talking to my grow shop it sounds like planting them any closer than 1 per square foot or every other site in the AF60 (30 plants) may be a waste of time and/or actually decrease my yield.

I'd like to better understand what people growing SOG style are doing to maximize yield. I can veg for any length of time. It sounds like several people on RIU are planting at a much higher density of 3-4 plants per square foot but the SOG FAQ says to go with 1 per sqft.

Any experienced growers out there experimented with this?

Any SOG style fools feel free to share your thoughts/methods...

Thanks to all!
