Im not getting this.

I have a 31" x 24" or 5.33 square foot DWC hydro setup.
Now for sog how many plants can I fit.
The kit was made for this and has 20 pots on it. This seems very cramped for the plants.

all the plants are from seed.

any help would be great.

Hi, Timbit ...

Hope all is well with you.

Most SOG growers shoot for four (4) plants per square foot. The idea is to flower early so the plants grow into one main cola. Everything else is cut off of the plant so the light penetration remains good. Usually, these plants will produce 1/4 to 1/2 ounce each. Now, think in terms of 99 plants, all producing one, 12 - 18 inch, single bud of 1/4 to 1/2 ounce.

A good SOG grower is a skilled grower. Usually, he/she grows only one strain at a time, all from very evenly cut cuttings, in order to keep uniformity among the growing plants.

In your case, with your setup, you'd be talking about growing out 21 plants (four per square foot) from one strain ... all from rooted cuttings..

Im good thanks for asking

Im not sure if my indoor skill level is good enough for 21 plants. the kit was made for that reason but i bought it because it came with everything needed for your first grow. Right now i will be starting from seed in the kit and will put 10 in and hope for 6 females.
It was a long day deciding to go 16-20 plants or 6
I went for 6 so if I kill them it wont be to bad compared to 20.
Thanks for the reply and great info ViRead

If all goes good is 1.5 oz a plant good for 6 ladys in my setup with 400whps

Man you can do 20 plants. Have a little faith in yourself. Right now I have about 550 plants. 20 plants should be a breeze. :)

my friend was starting a closet grow thats about 5'x3'. he wants to do SOG using a 1000watt HPS/metal halide bulbs. it says to do about 4 per square feet. i've read that all over the net but it doesnt say what size pots to use. i would assume that 4 per square foot would be fairly small. he was thinking of doing 24/7 lighting for 2 weeks and than 12/12 for flowering. would that be the correct way for the lights. he doesn't want the plants more than 21/2-3 feet when done. any help would be greatly appreciated.

Dude, just go for it! order some more seeds if you are realy worried about F-n up! If you fill every basket on your system, your chances from seed will be half Female anyways! Have faith, you will do well with the direction of others like Widow Maker, Mogie, and Garden Knowm..Gl and go big!

sog growers usally start with clones so pick a mother from the seeds take as many clones as u can. the mother should be the strongest from the seeds

Likewise, I bought the hydrofarm regulator with Sentinel chhc-1 controller. The controller is awesome but the regulator has been getting stuck in the open position... thus expending all my co2. Anyone have any opinions about the quality of this regulator? (Hydrofarm co2 regulator). Or anyone have any experiences with this reg?

Seems that I remember reading a post comparing regs... but cant seem to find it now. Anyone have the link for that?

Thanks

if your doing hydro, just make sure theres plenty of room for roots and oxygenate them VERY well, but step them up on oxygen levels gradually so you dont fry them, do whatever topping or trimming you want, im going to be trying some early bending to try and get 3-5 "main" stems on some of mine as well as trying some bottom trimming along with those :)

Go read this thread from front to back.

This is from the SOG GOD.

Don't look directly at his grow, you will burn your soul.
