Soil Help fox farm happy frog potting soil

When I started out I used FFOF straight and it killed my seedlings, I have read that FFOF has a reputation for being a little strong for seedlings. I now use FFOF mixed with some MG Seedling(which has peat and perlite). So far so good. I have read that Happy Frog is not as "strong" as FFOF, in that it will not burn new growth.

As far as nutes, I have looked at FF and GO, I would like to use GO but I am currently running FF nutes. Start off with a conservative dilution. Remember FF soil is nute rich and you should not need a lot of nutes.

Best of luck to you!!!!

I'm using happy frog now. I transplanted a plant (about 4 or 5 inches, and 45 days old or so) into it straight, and the plant seems to love it. I also popped a germinated seed into straight happy frog, but when the first true leaves emerged, they were burned. It's still touch and go, but it looks like it'll survive, if not thrive.

Anyway, if you're planting directly into it, I've heard that cutting it with more perlite, some dolomite, coco, etc., would help keep it from burning.

Good luck!

Is fox farm happy frog potting soil a good type of soil to use? I'm using General organic nutes if that's helps.
If you dont mind the price its great soil to use. Get yourself a bag of worm casting and dolomite lime to amend it with and you ready too go.
1 qt worm casting and 2 tablespoons dolomite lime per gallon of medium. If your new to growing you may want to add a bit more perlite to make the mix a little more forgiving to your watering habits.

And Happy Frog is not too hot for seedlings. Ocean Forrest may be a bit hot for some but not Happy Frog....

I use Happy Frog with perlite/lime/castings.
It is very, very acidic coming out of the bag. Runoff PH with 7.0 water is around 5.0-5.5.
Takes a little while for the lime to take effect. But, once you get it ph'd it is very good soil.
If they also carry Light Warrior, I would get a bag of LW, use LW for seedlings, and then when you transplant use 1 part Happy Frog to 1 part LW. Throw in a little perlite, lime, castings and you have some great soil.

I prefer happy frog over fox farm, but I now mix my own soil to be veganic. Also general organic nutes are great.

I've been using straight Happy Frog from start to finish, (with clones), and have great results. I'm also using Fox Farms nutrient feed system with good results; although you have to fine tune them and be careful.
