Hey guys ive been reading on here for a while now finially decided to join up and start my little adventure...

Ive been to all the name brand stores to get soil and non of them sell any soil that is sterilized that drains well. Most soils claim there brand hold in moisture the best, and I wanted to get something that drains well.

I ended up getting Sta-Green All Purpose Potting Soil, it seemed to be the best choice and it was like 3.98 so its prob shit.

What soil do I need and where can i get it. Where I live I only have big name stores locally.

Sry for the dumb question, I search for hours and couldnt find much that was clear to me... thanks guys! :leaf:

You want a soil with no nutes. I have used hyponex and 30% perlite and it's worked fine. Remember no nutes in the soil and you want water soluble nutes

Welcome to RIU :hump:
If you want something that drains well try growing in 100% perlite. It's called "hempy" :hump:

I still have a grow journal in my signature. Very very very good grow

If there is a farm supply store like Blue Seall, Agway etc. that is the best place to go. I had the same problem as you and finaly thought of those places. They had Premiere Pro-Mix. It is soiless, Peat moss, sand, vermiculite and perlite. They only have them in 3 1/2 cu/ft bales but it costs only $20. A lot of people on here swear by it and its cheap. Just my opinion.

Very low base nutrients aren't going to be a problem.. Most basic lawn soils have small amounts built in via compost addition etc.. But stay away from the potting mixes like MG that contain time release nutes!..
As for drainage, that is up to you to remedy with the addition of perlite, sand, crushed clay or whatever..
Pimping the soil out to perfection is also up to you.. Addition of castings/manure/guano/kelp/lime etc will improve the quality of any soil unless done badly..
Go to the organic section and see what they have to say about soil.. You don't need to go all out necessarily.. You can leave out some/all of the nutrient products, and suppliment them chemically.. The guys in that forum know the ins/outs of mixing chemicals and organics..

Im glad that you stared this thread. Marijuana is a weed, that means it doesn't need the worlds best soil. Mostly anything will work well.

Me- I will start by using regular soil 9nothing added) for the first couple of days, then add some MG with nutrients so i dont get any nut burn at the beginning.

Good Luck.

Most anything will 'work', but the best soil 'works best'..
If that method prevents the MG from all out thrashing your plants then congrats on that, but you're setting your bar pretty low I think..
