Soma Seeds

Spent approx. 100 bucks on 5 Soma Lavender Seeds and not a single seed germinated. Started
germinating my Medicann Blue Blood at the same time and that is now over 2" tall.

Where did you buy Soma Lavender Seeds? I would not want to buy there...

The same way i have for 40 years,in between moist paper towels. The Soma seeds are the only seeds
i have had trouble germinating in the last two years

Herbies where I usually have great luck,it's not them !

Badly that did not happen to grow Soma. How do you think what was the problem?

Did you scuff the seeds using a match box with a little soft piece of that tacky nail file girls use? If not it's your methods as some seeds need to be scuffed because they have an extremely hard outter coating.

Several years back I had a pack (10 beans) of Amnesia Haze from Soma. Only one popped but did not break the surface of the dirt. Old seeds maybe? Whatever it was, Soma will not get a second look from me.

Yeah,it sucks ! On my package of Soma Seeds it says 12/2014 but i am doubting that as the days roll on by with nothing happening. I'm going to give them a few more days but it doesn't
look good.

I like to soak em for 24 hours . change water n any that haven't split get another 24 hours before paper towels.

I guess it is the risk you take when ordering from seedbanks. I've had really nice Soma Lav and Rockbud, but viability seems to be hit-or-miss. Given the uncertainty of viability, I've moved toward getting proven clones rather than spending time on popping 20 seeds in order to get one keeper. I still do some breeding and those seeds are always ready to pop at the drop of a hat. Seems seedbanks have no problem distributing seeds that are several years old...resulting in lower than ideal germination rates.

But what I found interesting is that for 10 years or so, seedbanks were how I got my beans. Whether it was Serious Seeds, Bodhi, Nirvana, Ace, or Classic, germ rates were never an issue until Soma's pack. I'm just putting that out there because I assume all packs were treated the same since I bought most of those from the same bank.

Try heating pad

I grew lavender and a plus rock bud back in the day. I had to take soft sand paper to them. The grate you would use on a car running out a scratch / paint transfer.

Also had to sand the master Kush from Dutch passion. The popped pretty good.

I just had to do that recently to some kona sunset. Of those I had 15 seeds only 8 germinated and we're all male. I'm currently soaking the last 4. So don't feel bad. Kona is impossible to get. I just lucked out on a gift if I don't get a female I will be so sad.

Yes.. sometimes this can happen.. and the grower can resolve the issue.

or sometimes seeds get old and are bunk... can be not viable. Can be the seedbanks fault. Not storing them correctly for instance.. and selling really old stock. (just a guess, but my guess is this is a possibility at least with soma seeds strains. have heard this before)
ie: How long have those Alien Genetics LAD f1s been sitting in Bob's desk drawer anyway? Hmmmmmm.

or sometimes things happen in transit on the way to the seedbank and or your house. sit in a hot mail truck all day in the summer and fry to your dismay.

I've gotten a ten pack before that was total bunk. 0/10 germ.. got it replaced with the same stock from the same breeder, from the same run.. to get 10/10 germ on the replaements. You just never know sometimes. They're seeds. Anything can happen with these things.

if it were me.. id be taking pictures of the bunk seeds and sending them to the breeder. ask for replacements. if the breeder replaces them, the seeds you get back will be the most fresh.

I have had damn near 100 percent germ rate using rapid rooter and a heat pad.

I insert the seeds in the rapid rooter with the knot side up then soak them in hot water then put them in a humidity dome under a heat mat or heating pad. After 24 hours I use a spray mister to keep them damp but not too wet.

However recently my wife paid 150 for 6 Dr greenthumb ecsd and only one broke the soil. All of them cracked grew a tail but stalled and died I have no idea why. Maybe old stock which I figure it was.

I think seed vendors should have quality control measures. For example selling stock older than 5 years at a reduced rate and testing germ rates. Also making sure to keep away from immature seeds (the pale ones white ones without stripes ) although I have been successful germinating some of these too

I use the towel on a plate on top of a heating pad with the towel covered by a bowl. I've yet to have a seed not germ and I've popped quite a bit of beans. Heating pads where it's at. Most crack within 24 hrs.

Did the surface of soil dry out? I put seedlings under a dime or ziploc bag until the seedling drops its helmet. So the soil doesn't dry out.
