Some christians are very hateful...

If these people existed in any significant numbers I'm sure most Americans would be outraged. But since most people know this is a minuscule handful of nuts who are merely seeking attention and represent no group save for nut jobs, few people care. The article you linked to is clearly an attempt to make a non-issue seem significant.

I think it is mostly because many christians do not understand the new covenant. They have been baffled by replacement theology or believe they are still under the old covenant. I am a christian and usually find myself in rumbles with these folks over scripture. In the book of galatians paul makes it very clear we are not under the old covenant when we submit ourselves to the leadership of Christ and trust on His work at the cross to redeem us. Alot of times people want to turn God into a hit man to take out their hurt on others. But the truth of the matter is paul had many encouraging things to say about the human struggle we all face, he wrote about 75% of the new testament.

^^^ The last two posts were really excellent.

Personally, I think religious rituals stand in the way of a personal relationship with God. The Spirit of God is all around us. We don't need a building called a "church" to communicate with that Spirit, nor do we need the blessings of other humans to walk the narrow path called The State of Grace.

I find all religion to be spiteful and hateful. They all have the feeling that if you are not with them then you are against them.. seems pretty retarded to me.. I love you all no matter who or what makes you happy, just as long as you leave me the fuck alone... PEACE

Christianity is by far the bloodiest religion of all time, more wars and death can be attributed to that religion than any other. I come from a christian family but it is a fact. It would be nice if we could all agree but what fun would that be.

They are not bad people; hypocrites yes, but they are not inherently bad. That's why I like Islam, they make it clear that they are hateful, especially to the infidels, but at least they're not hypocrites.

Why so defensive, jeff?

It was merely an observation....

I'm sorry the libtards offended you when they so hideously slandered that great american hero george walker bush, but that has very little to do with the topic, my friend. I actually agree that a lot of criticism of bush was over the topic and purely partisan. If you want to start a thread about that, please do. I will be sure call out anyone who says bush deserves aids or clarence thomas should eat more bacon and eggs....

Shenanigans is jacking a thread and completely changing the topic....

Calling these people "Christians," is like calling Obama a patriot.
I agree... just not the way you meant it.
The bible's open to interpretation. You can find words of hate or love, violence or peace, etc.. People pick the parts that fit their ideals, and ignore the ones that don't. So, sure these people are christians. And, I believe that Obama is patriotic... just not your kind of patriotic.

There are dicks and assholes from all walks of life.

If you believe that Jesus is the son of God that pretty makes you a Christian. "Believing" in "something" that is not defined still has a label. It's called Agnostic I believe.

If there were no labels or generalizations there wouldn't be a dictionary. Generally speaking you are a Christian.

No you don't have to go to church.

That is an interesting myth propagated by the left. The opposite is actually true.

Most wars (excluding Islam) were notably Atheist. Stalin's Russia outlawed religion - they are said to have caused twenty million deaths. Hitler wrote in Mien Kampf that his wish was to eradicate religion and the Jews represented the greatest opposition to this goal. Pol Pot and the Camir Rouge killed for Communism which again is synonymous with Atheism. And numerous wars were fought over land, not religion.

It is also worth noting that modern Democracies seldom go to war with each other and are synonymous with human rights and dignity - these are Judeo-Christian countries. The totalitarian countries which tend to be Atheist are the ones that tend toward war, lack of fundamental human rights and dignity.

Sorry to burst your bubble but Hitler was a christian and worked CLOSELY with Pope Pius in converting Germanic society and supporting the church. The Church absorbed Nazi ideals and preached them as part of their sermons in turn Hitler placed Catholic teachings in public education.

Due to Hitler’s involvement with the Church he began enacting doctrines of the Church as law. He outlawed all abortion, raged a death war on all homosexuals, and demanded corporal punishment in schools and home. Many times Hitler addressed the church and promised that Germany would implement its teachings: “The National Socialist State professes its allegiance to positive Christianity. It will be its honest endeavor to protect both the great Christian Confessions in their rights, to secure them from interference with their doctrines (Lehren), and in their duties to constitute a harmony with the views and the exigencies of the State of today.” –Adolf Hitler, on 26 June 1934

that a tyrant may use the political aspirations of the leaders of the roman catholic church for his own ends is hardly a condemnation of that religion or an affirmation of his own faith. many such men have hidden behind the trappings of faith to gain the support of the powerful, that doesn't mean they were truly what they professed. you or i may call ourselves whatever we wish, that doesn't make it necessarily so.

by the way -
quoting stones lyrics lends little weight to such a disingenuous argument.
