Some info about the 12/12

Hey guys,

My plant is only a little over two months old. Things are looking good and it's about 4 inches tall right now. I don't know if it is a male or female yet, although there are little V looking thingies sprouting out on the stem in places. I heard that you can determine the sex by switching to a 12/12 cycle. Right now I have the plant on more of a 16/8 cycle. I don't want to waste a bunch of time growing this thing if it's going to turn out to be a male, so I'm thinking of switching to a 12/12 cycle for about a week. My question about this is: if I switch to 12/12 for a week to determine the sex, can I then switch back to a 16/8 cycle to get it bigger before going back to a 12/12 for flowering? Or is there no going back once I've given it a week's worth of a 12/12 cycle?

Any help or suggestions with this is very much appreciated.

Thanks a bunch,

BM

Wait one sec, your plant is over 2 months old & siill only 4 inches tall, wtf is going on in your grow,in 9 weeks the plant should be easily one foot tall, you've got some serious issues going on that are stunting the plant.

For the qwuestion yes you can force sex by going 12/12 asap but its not that simple, the more nodes & the older the plant is before sexing the faster it will show sex,a 2 month old plant should show sex in one week or less but being that your plant is only 4 inches tall i suspect it has very few nodes & is struggeling every day just to hold on.

Post a pic of the plant please.

Hey man,

I've attached a photo of my plant. It might be a little more than 4 inches tall, but I don't think it's over a foot yet. The plant was with friends for a little while at the start and they took shitty care of it. I've only had it back for about three weeks now and it's really started growing fast since then.

Whaddaya think?

That plant is nowhere near being ready to be sexed, you need to either get more light or lower the light you have right now, that plant is badly stretched with an extremely thin stalk, get more light & a fan blowing on the plant making the leaves flutter 24/7,once the plant has 5 nodes then you can force flower.

You should repot that plant asap into a very deep pot also, snap off the bottom leaves, apply a little rooting powder to the areas where you snapped off the leaves, this will help the plant sprout new roots from those areas faster, this will correct most of the stretched plant along with more light.

Thanks man,

I'm sort of low on cash right now, so I can't afford to buy new lights, but I put the plant closer to the lights that I do have for it and I am going to re-pot it as soon as I can.

if that thing is 2 months old and looks like that...you must be using a 25watt soft white light bulb or something. thats a riot.

No worries mate. I'm going through the same thing, and just like you im using limitied resources. I'm actually just doing it for fun and im sure you are too.

Don't listen to their negative responses

All they are trying to say is that.. your plant is growing slow because of the lights you are using obviously. But we use what we got. Best results are HPS and MH lights, which are way to expensive in most cases, at least to me.

Cool. Good to hear that there's other dudes like me out there just curious to see if they can grow a little somethin' with limited resources. Good luck with your grow, man. I still think that a decent plant can be grown without using serious equipment. After all, it's just a weed right?

For two months that looks horrible.

And 16/8? The light schedule is 18/6.

And those things you call V's are nodes and yes when you change it to 12/12 it will show sex.
