Some questions I have so I can start my first grow ever....

I have never grown before so I am very noob but I have done some reading and I have compiled a list of questions because I would like an experts take on them. Thanks a lot.

1. I will be doing it in a closet, what products would you recommend cleaning it with, is just water and bleach ok? Do I have to wash the ceiling also?

2. I will be lining the walls with Mylar the reflective material, do I have to line the ceiling and floor also?

3. Should I line the floor with plastic of some sort in case of mess or small water leaks?

4. I have 2 closets, one a bit bigger then the other, so I will use one for Veg and other for Flower. I have decided to use LED lights. Are there different spectrum's of LED for Veg and Flower (different colour? like blue and reddish to purple?) Which should I use for Veg and which for flower.

5. Whats your favorite light/dark cycle for veg and flower?

6. Can you recommend a drainage system plz? Or is a Pot with holes on top of a Board of some sort and a bucket underneath good enough ?

7. Can you also recommend some actual brands/products if possible. Led lights, nutrients.

7.5 Should I do a soilless mix or soil. Soilless would include perlite/vermiculite?

8. How do you suggest I create a pulley system for the lights (if I need one at all) so that the lights are optimal distance from the product.

9. How do you suggest I go about making an air circulation system, my space is about 10 feet long 6 feet high and 3 feet wide. Fans on just 1 side of the closet or all around?

10. This also brings me to carbon filter, any products you recommend? I guess if I use a carbon filter I dont have to filter it outside I can just circulate back into my apartment.

11. If you have any other advice or questions to ask me to guide you into giving me more sound advice please ask away.

12. I know there are other things I need to know, but these are my main questions for now, Im sure I will think of others, Thanks.

Answers 1. Bleach and water is fine, might as well do the ceiling while your at it. 2.not the floor. if you don't have a reflector then the ceiling might help. 3 yes 4. That's probably a thread in its self I don't know enough about them to help you. IMO by using color filters like red or blue it seems like you would be taking away from the overall spectrum. I would use small hids and florescent lights. 5. 24 hour light for veg 13 dark 11 light for flower. 6. A 5 gallon bucket and a lid with some holes . I like to cut a slot into it so I can fit around my plant this way I can wash one off if I have to without the soil falling out. 7. I don't use leds I like hortilux eye. and composted cow manure or super soil. 8. pulley systems are really cheap you can probably get one for ten bucks. 9. I think a small oscillating fan might be fine you just want them all moving a little. 10. never used one I like the airwick gadget and ona gel. if you place a ionic pro or some other ionizer just outside the flower closet it should take care of the smell. they can be pricey. mine was 150$. what ever you do don't put the ionizer in the room with the plants.

Dr. Pecker took his time to address all ur ?'s, so I won't . I just have a few ?'s for u.4). dude, you must be planning on spending tons on lights! A good led light like Lumitex is gonna cost you plenty. especially if you plan on lighting up the whole 10'x6' room and putting one in each room! there are a lot of grow led's out there now & just a few worth getting 7.5) other soil less that I use when not doing DWC is Coco Not, Coco Coir and others from the coconut husks. 8) pulley systems? once again, depends on how much of those closets you plan on using. There are tons of grow video out there. check a few out. they will take you from the begin to end of what u need for a successful grow room, depending on ur financial status.

Thank you very much for the response, a few rebound questions if I may...

I would use HPS but the heat plus electricity bill turns me off, plus I really dont want to start a fire (i am in an apartment) So I think LED is the way to go (not a question, i know)

Questions:
1. Why does my bucket need a lid?

2. If I use "super soil" do I put anything else other then nutrients in the soil?

3. Any recommendations for nutrients/brands

4. How many fans are usually necessary, 1 on each side blowing towards each other? 2 on each side?

Thanks again I appreciate it.

Hello there, thank you for you response.

So Lumitex would be the LED brand you would recommend the most?

I dont want to spend a ton on lights, but I dont think HPS would be practical at this point due to my setup/situation.

I have been growing a very long time and reading these type sites for a very long time...

I have yet to see a single post saying "MY HID STARTED A FIRE!"

If you have personally had a fire from a HID (not hearsay, personally) please post here that you had a fire.

on your 2cnd set of questions: 1) not sure what ur talking about 2) I am not familiar w Super Soil, but would guess that, yes you would want to use nutrients in your soil. 3) man, there are so many out there and it depends on who u ask. I use House & Garden, but I would do more research if I were you on this one. 4) usually one fan in a closet grow, but as big as your closets are make sure get a strong, big oscilating fan. I agree w u %100 on the led's. I am saving up for one now. I did a lot of research and am sold, hands down, on illumitex. if u have the money and are obviously serious, go for it!!

What are you growing for? Personal or money? You could run t5 for the veg room. Probably run it in flower room to.

Non the less the t5 in the veg room would work fine e and save a few bucks.

You could get a few shallow rubber maid totes to set your pots in.

the holes would let the water drain into the bucket below.
2. If I use "super soil" do I put anything else other then nutrients in the soil? You put all kinds of shit in the super soil. and you cant just make it up and use it either you have to get it to compost for about 2 months.

3. Any recommendations for nutrients/brands organically done, down to earth, dr. earth.

4. How many fans are usually necessary, 1 on each side blowing towards each other? 2 on each side?
just enough to get the plants moving without drying everything out. I'm not at your house so I couldn't tell you for sure.

I probably watched at least 20 videos on supersoil and soil building before I purchased a single product. I would advise you to do the same.

For that you could get the t5s for veg, hids for flower with vented hoods, bulbs, ballast, ducting, exhaust fan, hangers,co2 the whole shabang! maybe even the carbon scrubber.
Hey sorry what are t5's? Is that a model of an LED?

Im still very confused about the Lid on pot part, and you cutting slots or what not. Is there a video that shows this?

Also a question that might be stupid, but if I buy feminized seeds, that mean I dont have to worry about sexing the plant right? All of them will be female?

when it comes to nutrients you cant go past Canna or Duthmaster.
i have been growing indoor for some time in cupboards and rooms, make sure you have plenty of ventilation, or your plants will be to stressed and will wilt and mould up,computer fans are great in small areas with an oscillating fan.
Good luck

T 5 fixture Use google. Don't worry about the bucket. feminized seeds that means they don't have any male chromosomes. stress factors were induced to get that result. The offspring might hermaphrodite under stressful situations. I have had success with some I've also had some that hermed.

I have also used femenised seeds. I have mostly had success. It is because I am on disability and home all day. It's easier for me to get the results, because I have done it a while and can attend to them daily and or hourly, if needed. But, yeah they mature as female plants. Is sometimes worth it to not hae to worry about sexing the plant and take the chance of being wrong and ruining your grow.
