Veggies is a great way to hone your green thumb. I have melons growin' in a mini table in my apartment in town. They have passed the melons growing in soil along side.

Damn, all my tomato bushes are dying off already!

May I ask which state you're in?

I think it's this crazy ass weather we have at the moment, it's really causing all my veggies to do strange things.

Yeah they die off, i've never had them come back the next year either. Although that may be because I rip em out once they've finished off fruiting and
let the chickens have a go at what's left, then I start again the next year lol.

I thought about cloning some of the decent bushes too, though it's too late now :(

I havn't had any fruit off the tomatos yet , The strawberry plant came up by it's self .
I have picked about 50 or so beans so far , i always leave a few beans on the plants then when they die off
i collect the dried beans and plant them next year ! never have to buy bean plants anymore .

Shade cloth .
That would work , but i don't have cash at the minute to waste on shade cloth .
Times are tuff here bro .

I just lost 10 or so seedlings today from the heat, sucks balls.
I'm hearin ya bro , this heat is bullshit !
All my plants have come back to life so far .
This morning my mj plant shrunk to around 20cm wide , when it is normally 80cm wide .
They do not like this hot hot sun and wind that's for sure .

shade cloth is quite cheap.
i'm sure that cheese cloth (3$)might work the same, or even an old screen , or just cut some tree branches off and use those with the leaves temporarily, i don't know
if you rig it up until foliage covers the ground, the roots may set in enough to combat the heat drought drying the soil and killing the plant
as for wind you could build something to protect it.
maybe hammer in posts and put up a ripped down piece of plywood

if heat gets worse, try supplying silica.
there's a method of making it organically, called Horestail tea. Search RIU for that and you'll get the recipe; i think it's by Cann or someone
also you could end up buying some, or analyzing your soil to see if silicates are already there.

research into silica and read about how it helps with transplants, heat and drought stress, and makes the plant stronger and more flexible.
if moisture retention is a problem, there are lots of things you could do.

just a couple suggestions! I wish it was warm like that here!

i would rig an old bed sheet over the veggies like a tent. it'll make it cooler under there. also if you mulch the ground at the root zone with shredded newspaper it'll help to conserve moisture.

Commericaly made shade cloth is expensive

the DIY options can be cheap

I use a mesh pool cover ment to keep leaves from going in the water on top off the cover , I bought a 30' by 60' (or something close) for about 40$

Tropical regions around the top of Queensland annuals can grow year round, most of Oz is temperate or arid though, and annuals die off when summer ends. :(
