So, here is my dilemma. Bare with me this is gonna be lengthy. I currently have a setup in my closet but am moving to an apt, it's in the country, my gf's gma gpa live upstairs the house is huge as well as the basement. It has 3 bedrooms I'm planning on using one of the rooms to grow in. I could just move this setup in the basement but it's really a pain in the ass to get in and out of. So, I found this tent online. 24X48X60. I'm gonna get a 400W mh/hps lamp for it. It's gonna be a cheaper one at the moment till i get working solid then I will have another one but it will have the vented hood. Eventually I wanna have 2 of these tents. One for veg and one for flower. My question is this, anyone with experience with these.

1. How many plants can I grow comfortably in these. I.E how tall can they get and what not.

2. Will this light work good for this. I can't afford a 600 at the moment nor will i anytime soon. Plus I think it would get way too hot.

3. What are the main drawbacks of these. Are they a pain in the ass or quite useful.

This is the tent i'm looking at, it's fairly cheap anyone have one of these in particular?

to answer your questions, in order asked
1. your plants will get as big as you want em, veg till about 1/2 of your intended height,as they will still grow in flower. you can do 2 huge plants or 12 smaller ones. your best bet for yield would be a scrog or at least topping, with a sea of green

2. As you can see in my grow, a 400w light is no problem as long at you have adequate ventilation. stay above 65 and below 85

3. I dont see any drawbacks to these tents. as long as your mindful to the potential size of your plants and prevent crowding, they are a clean enclosed grow area specifically made for growing inside. some would say the prices are a drawback but for the convenience of it, it was worth it for me to buy one other than build one

i have a perfect answer for u cuz i have a cabinet i purchased from home depot and its actually a tiny bit smaller than 24x48x60...mine is about 3 feet acroos, 2 feet deep and about 5 feet high...inside i have a 400 watt mh/hps and i started out with 4 plants, a diablo og kush, a skywalker og kush, a blue venom and a grape romulon, in my opinion 4 was wayy too much for that cabinet (width wise) it got too tuffy down low and i didnt like it, i want air flow and it was just too dense for me, i took out the grape romulon and gave it to my homie to flower, now i get half the yierld, no biggy...now with three im doing excellent, and the best part is that if ur a little crafty u can do it all with pc fans and some elbow grease, i did,.,,.. 50% humidity even in late flower, a CONSTANT 73 degrees f (65 at lights off)

ill explain the process to u hope u got a minute...

IMG_20110326_103804.jpgIMG_20110326_103818.jpgheres some pics with the cabinet door closed and a pic of mid vegging (still had the 4 plants)

IMG_20110328_214923.jpgIMG_20110326_103838.jpgIMG_20110328_214909.jpgnow heres the tricky (ingenuitive) part...the intake/exhaust system...these black boxes u see are actually black foam board from michaels arts and crafts shop, they are cut to size to encase a 110 cfm pc fan sucking out the stale/humid cabinet air (theres 2 of them as u can see)..the reason they are boxes in the first place is because in side the box there is a series of staggered pieces of the foam board that light cannot travel around but air can, hence making them light proof...the other pc fan foam box has a 2 inch "pre-heater hose" purchased for like ten bux from autozone for any car, its on the shelves in the back, u gotta walk back there with the guy, its where they keep the wires and stuff on spools...i drilled 2 2:" inch holes on the side of the cheapy light reflector that comes with the HTGsupply.com hood, one hole is to stuff the 2" inch hose in to suck out hot air from the hood, the other hole is to bring in fresh air to the hood so the 2" hose has a air source...(keep in mind, i did all this cause the cabinet got 103+ degrees inside with the light on and no cooling of the hood), also note that u have to buy a piece of tempered glass from a glass shop (15 bux)and make ur own enclosed light hood...the inatke are the exact same but down low in the cabinet, i ran them at veg to keep humidity high but turned them off during flower to create a passive air intake system and it worked awesome..

IMG_20110327_200246.jpgDSC02396.jpgIMG_20110324_202359.jpgDSC02397.jpgIMG_20110420_211003.jpg...heres some more recent pics of whats goin on, now ofcourse mine is a strictly medical , legal grow and its more of a hobby cabinet than grow cabinet in my eyes but heyyy, it works for me and im stoked, ill still get like 3 ounces off these planst im sure, well see tho...the tall blue venom will be ready in a week or so....if i was 4 feet instead of 3 feet id probably just get a better actual real exhaust fan and run some passive intake and carbon filter but i hope this gave u an iodea bro, good luck, ill sub to this in case u have any questions...

+rep if u guys like my DYI hobby cabinet, lol

Looks like I will be going with this tent. that htg light happens to be the one I picked out as well. Seems very affordable and by the looks of it, it's working great for you. I hadn't thought about cutting them holes in the vent and putting glass in it but it's a gimme now. Thanks for that tid bit. Another quick question. Usually once my plants are this big they're headed outdoors very shortly but with that not being the case this year (maybe 1 will go out) I have just a couple roots coming down to the bottom of my pots now, just a couple like literally 1 or 2 I noticed when I pulled it out of the planter to have a look at the "high quality" soil. :) But question being when should i think about transplanting. I researched and it looks as though you should go from like a 1gal to a 1.5 and so on, but how long should i let it go in this pot? Till I "NOTICEABLY" see roots coming out? I have rocks in the bottom 2" and the couple roots i seen were hitting the rock. BY the way, MAZ your setup/plants look great man, you do good work.

hey hitthis, thanks for the compliment dude, thats cool ur gonna go with the tent, hopefully u goit an idea or two from my post, if u have the room and spending money it might be better to just click the cooltube upgrade option for more money from htg but as u can see im limited on space and the cooltube needed a 6 inch duct and a fan strong enough to pull it, yadda yadda....i just decided to make my own, F it...it works bomb and stays cool to the touch...saved money. im a very unconventional grower being as that i always have the state of mind that its a weed and dont make it too complicated, to be honest when i got my clones from the dispensary i just put them straight in the big pots they will stay in thru out the full grow, it might have been the worst idea ever but my plants look fine to me...i went straight from the dispensaries little grow cube to a 2 gallon pot...ive also heard that the actual roots should never be in contact with direct air, so im thinking if ur gonna step up in size it would be better to do it sooner than later???
