son agro lights

So I am extremely new to growing. I have been looking around and it seems that the best setup for my size room as far as lighting would be 400w HID.

I've managed to score a 400 watt hps ballast/fixture with a reflector used for like 80 bucks, which is great, but it comes with no light bulb. I was wondering if anyone has had experience with the 430 watt son agro bulbs.

apparantly the extra 30 watts is some added in blue spectrum for the initial growth stage. I was just wondering if one of these will be cool, or should I spend the extra money and get an MH conversion bulb as well as a 400 watt hps bulb.

thanks in advance for the help

400 watt enhanced spectrum bulb, not sure aobut the 430 watt in a 400 watt ballast because the bulb would be underpowered slighty so wouldn't burn at the specified temp.

You can use the 430 in a 400watt light,It will not use all of the 430 watts, just 400watts.I would use the HPS all the way to finish. Then later on get a conversion bulb that is 400watts.I myself dont like used lighting, you dont know if its working to its full potential or not.But thats just me.PEACE

i have one of those enhanced spectrum HPS bulbs, and it does a swell job of maintaining tight internodal development throughout the vegetative growth phase. :peace:

You'd be better of getting a dual spectrum 400watt hps as putting any bulb in above the rated power for your unit is asking for trouble especially if its second hand:blsmoke:

the sites selling the son agro lights claim they will work with a 400 watt or a 430 watt ballast.

I would imagine the 430 watt would work better.

Yeah it will work just as putting in a 600 bulb to a 400w ballast would work but if you under power it then it won't burn right and the spectrum will be fucked.

Here ya go sir I was reading "The Joys of An Herb Garden at Home" and was reading about SA lights, here is what it says

"There is a new type of HPS lamp called Son Agro, and it is available in a 250, 1000, and
400 watt range. The 400 is actually 430 watts; they have added 30 watts of blue to this bulb. It is
a very bright lamp (53k lumens) and is made for greenhouse use. These bulbs can be purchased
to replace normal HPS bulbs, so they are an option if you already own a HPS lamp. The beauty
of this bulb is that you do not give up most of the advantages of MH lamps, such as minimal
internode spacing and early maturation, like most HPS users do, and you have all advantages of
a HPS lamp. One bulb does it all.

Internodal length of plants grown with the Son Agro are the shortest ever seen with any
type of lamp. Plants grown under this lamp are incredibly bushy, compact and grow very fast.
Son Agro bulbs however, do not last as long as normal HPS bulbs. There is something like a
25% difference in bulb life. "

Does the extra 30 watts of blue really do the trick for vegging? if so I'm getting one of these and taking out all my CFL's.

Do you know if the 250 has 30 added watts or is the lowered for less wattage I've only seen the 430 never a 280
