son of a *BLEEP*. broken top after 48hr darkness going into flower... help!

ok so yesterday i took my vegging plants out of 48hr darkness (i always go this going from veg to flower to give them a good kick start.)

apparently for some reason the plants got firm quick...after 2 days of darkness they already were almost as hard as they are in flowering...this happened faster with this strain (DP's Master Kush) than any other...

so i broke a top on accident!

it was a clean break but about 80% was torn...so i grabbed some paper and tape and wrapped it around the broken piece and taped it up...its worked before...however this time i checked back in 2hrs and the fan leaves on the top (above the break) were severely wilted....so i had to scrap the top.

what effect will this have on the plant's flowering period compared to the rest?

sorry no pics but its just the very upper portion of the plant...maybe 2 nodes

no worries it will take a couple weeks but no ill effect....you will end up with 2 colas instead of one main

i suppose you're rite skinnyone...this was my first attempt at the FIM (just topped previously)...it worked VERY well one top even had 5 main shoots popping out after instead of four!

ah well guess i know how to do it 4 next time.

just sucks cuz i never seen a plant become so brittle after 48hr darkness...whats interesting is 4-5 of my 12 plants had their top leaves angled up in the "praying" position like the lights were on. lol...

I agree with jdizzle somewhat...24 hours darkness is about all I would go when switching to 12/12

It doesn't matter - 12 hours is 12 hours, the plant stops "counting" after that. It's more a process of repeated long dark periods than the absolute length of one dark period.

I agree as well. Why subject the plants to a cycle that they are not familiar with? I doubt 48 hours is going to kick start anything but final survival mode. Hell, a jump from 6 hours dark to double that is shock enough. :)

Mine were already topped and lst'd down (split open so to speak) when i started flowering. I tried to further LST them a couple days in and split one of them right down the middle stem about 3" ... where i had topped in essence. I was petrified.

It's doing fine and looking to yield more than the other, and is shorter and denser wiht the buds. The other one looks like it's about a week ahead though so i reckon it slowed my flowering while it healed a bit.

So don't worry about it, it will probably be fine.

Forget the 48 hours of darkness, just switch to flowering and you will get to harvest two day earlier or use the two days to get two more light cycles. The missing branch will just make the lower buds fill out faster.

i dont agree with those who say, "dont put them in 48hr darkness!" but guess what i noticed from putting them in 48hr darkness versus 24 hr darkenss or just go straight from 18/6 (or 20/4 or even 24/0) straight to 12/12? the sex shows faster. thats why i do it. ive never had a bad experience with the extended darkenss...i dont contribute that to the branch being brittle either as ive done this with different strains and each was flexible...for some reason just this master kush doesnt like it...

so after my bad experience i havent attempted to tie anything else down im just gonna let them grow from here on out...hope i have enough room though as its pretty packed in there already...
