Spectra is here!

Side by side Blackstar and spectra, notice the bluer shade coming from the spectra vs blackstar. I have been rotating her, sorry for the black stripes too I have no idea why they are there, I wasnt shooting through a fan. As I said earlier I did some serious thinning, this is a first time so I am getting my experimenting done on this one...

without the cfls in there is harder to see any trichs but they are there. I am thinking at least 4 more weeks?

Mr Bong,

I sure do hope so! I am tryng to find my phone to take some more pics but... I smoke too much weed. I need a remote alarm on everything I own that is small enough to fit in one's pocket.

I am already excited for my next grow. I am going to stick with white widow (why throw strain specific experience out the window eh). But I also want to try something else any suggestions? Using soil, tent, next grow will be scrog, LED light all the way through, oh yes and love.

There are soo many strains and they all look so pretty its hard to decide.
I hear you, I lose my car keys...cell phone...wallet all the time and most of the time they're somewhere ridiculous probably cause I was too medicated ;) oh well. I would strongly agree with you to grow WW again, just because it's a great strain, I've seen it do well in SCRoG, and you can tweak and better your next grow since you know a little bit more about the exact strain. I had a few "trial" grows just for learning experience not even focusing on yield and it really does help sticking to one strain when you first start out, getting the basics, learning how the cannabis grows, etc. But hey you can always venture out and pick a different strain each grow even if your beginning to expand the horizons ;) just might face a few difficulties, which are really the best lessons if you research and learn how to deal with em. One big piece of advice I would give you is to journal your first few grows in exact details (ppm, water temp, etc). I can't stress enough how helpful it is having records of when I overnuted, undernuted, what week it was, whatever - to look back on if I'm dealing with the same strain again. It's like a personal guide!

My big advice would be to take the plants out or bring another light in here and there. The LEDs make it really hard to read the leaves because of the odd colors.

I would stick with WW for a few grows as well. It's just such a great strain in so many ways, and having expience with the same strains means you can change other things and you can see different reactions.

The lines on your pictures are from the lights. I'm not sure what does it, but it's basically overloaded with light. Happens a lot with hid.

Grow is looking good, just keep the updates rolling :)

What 180 is it? Ebay or his website? Any idea how many watts? One of mine came without hangers, finally got them after a long month or so, good luck..

its the spectra 100 from ebay, but it was being sold by him, he had a few 180s a 500 and a 100w for various prices. I got the 100w for $130 shipping incl. not bad at all, i think I like the blackstar better though the spectra 100 seems very blue compared to the 240 BS.

so since this thread has become my impromptu journal, here's a little update, I raised the panels because there was some random bleaching on the leaves. After much research, and confidence in the fact that my nute/ph/water regime is fine, I decided that 2" was too close for me LED panels. I thought since I have 2 of em in a 2'x2' grow space I didnt need to worry about footprint and I could just blast my baby... glad I caught it before any serious damage was done. I also added 2 of my 55w soft white cfls mostly for heat, she isnt drinking as much now with LEDs. I think the buds have just begun to get thicker, I expect the next few weeks to be fun.

I have spectra 290 and 180 in 4x4 x8 lots of cal mag and silicel plus raised lites to almost top of tent, lots of folks having that issue from about 3rd week of flowering

Extra blue is good, and so are the yellows and oranges if you're seeing a few of them. The early versions of this light ran too hot in red, spreading out the spectrum in that area is hopefully the right move. If you ever need anything from him I wish you luck because it can take weeks just to reach him. And if anyone is ever stuck without a power cord, a power cord to a desktop computer will suffice. I got a DOA cord and have those damn desktop PC cords laying around in the cord/cable graveyard.

Best of luck with your spectra, watch your distance in flower, I run mine about 24".

You might want to check and see how many watts it actually puts out, might be easioer to tell what you actually bought, my 180 puts out 140 watts. I understand they originally put out 180 but he changed the power supply to put out less ( push the led 's less), the understanding is that they are so powerful they will burn your plants, but that’s only the 2011 V1 -V?...

okay im going to give you some pointers and im going to be pretty criticsl, plesse dont take it the wrong way. The light you bought from mike is pos when compared to other led lights on the market right now, dont buy into the whole more spectrums is better crap, they arent. The only spectrums you want are primarily blue and red (630-660nm, more 660 than 630), one or two uv bulbs can be beneficial as well as 3 or 4 green, but you really dont need anything other than red and blue for flowerin medicinal marijuana in varying wavelenghs peaking in the PAR wavelengths known to be best for cannabis. If you payed more than $1 per watt for that light you got ripped. Dont get me wrong, it will produce buds, but buds far inferior to those that would have been produced by a diff light. My advice or instruction rather is to get that light closer and closer to the top of your plant until your about 1 inch away, obviously you will lose coverage but what good is coverage if those buds only produce airy nothingness. By getting the light as close as possible you will maximize enetration and develope as much bud through the body of the plant as the light will allow. Treat your spectra and blackstar the same and attempt to lower each every day until they are right

on top of the canopy, you will undoubtadly see burning of the leaves and possible bleaching of the top most calyxes, but this is no big deal and should be ignored in light of the benefit of much bigger denser buds, this i can assure you. Second cut off all fan leaves, that is the large single leaf below each branch, and any spindly large fan leaves on very developed branches. Doing this will allow for much better penetration of light to bud sites therefore increasing yields. Finally my last advice is once your finished with this grow sell those lights and invest in better ones, if you want my personal opinion on best lights for price/quality/specialized for flowering cannabis just pm me. Again i know this was criicall but these are facts and good advice, i leave it up to you as to weather or not you wish to follow it. awesome plant, get those cycles right and be kind t her, she doesnt like to be stressed. Happy growing. Peace. P.S. sorry about the countless spelling snd gramaticall errors, typing on a tablet is tough, lol

fan leaves are where the majic happens friend. i used to trim fan leaves and now i treasure them. i use less nutes now and yield a third more then i did when i trimmed fan leaves for better penetration. if your having a penetration problem then your cramming to much into your grow. i can yield more off 2 plants that have space to grow then 4 plants that are squashed together regardless if it is a hps or led.... just my 2 cents

Cheers, yea I was wondering about those greens and yellows. I learned the light distance lesson the hard way kinda, I think I avoided total disaster but if my girl looks liek she is still stressed tomorrow I will flush and raise lights a bit. Tomorrow is a no nute water anyway. So we shall see in a few days if the discoloring stops.

ya me either, cut off fan leaves, I dunno, I thinned them out a week ago but certainly didnt remove any substantial amount about 5% of them mostly from the under canopy. Jorge told me not to cut any lol so I was worried with just the thinning. If Doctor's advice is to throw away my LEDs and replace them with HID then I must, as I seem to do often, remind him that this is an LED forum and I dont need to hear the benefits of HIDvsLED lol not again, and again, and again

urmmm Dr Canna I think you might not know what you are talking about...

Not to mention, my blackstar is all red and blue so the spectra is just supplemental...

anyway, no need to worry about me taking criticism, its a first grow. its one plant that I flowered way early. and no I am not about to spend like 2k for 800w LED panels when there is ample evidence to support lower cost brands such as blackstar (spectra is hardly a low end LED make) growing decent nugs. I am not a commercial grower, I am not trying to maximize yields or make the dankest buds ever grown, I am trying to have some fun, keep it simple and hopefully get to smoke at the end, and slowly learn my own way through this fun adventure. I can go to my local dispensary and get delish bud 7 days a week so I can afford the time to tinker.
