2 hps and 1 mh you would be good to go. also you could run the mh for only 6 hours to simulate noon. 2 400 would cver it if everthing was kept under 3 feet but that is doubtful as you only want to grow 6 plants so you will either need 3 400w or 1 1000w. you might be able to get 3 new set ups with hoods in the 400$ range. i got 4 1000w for 500 when i first started used and sold them for a profit.

GOOD GOD ALIGHTY ALPHA!!! That is one sweet setup. That is what I want mine to look like by this time next year. All of the plants will be kept as short and fat as possible, also. We were hoping for a max height of around 3 feet.

thank you. it was fairly expensive and took several years to get together. but now the only thing im gonna add is a couple uv bulbs. and call it a day yeah all my plants are under 3 ft. some bushy some not just depends on strain and how i trained plant. i move fast started this set up on the first of the year w/ like 20 seed some good some bad and like 3 clones and 2 older clones. i now have 2 ww mothers one im about to flower off, 5 ww clones just potted, 9 bags seed unknown in veg 8 bagseed in flower ,a blue grass clone is a tall sativa i got flowering and another sativa i call athena. the 2 ww in pictures flowering. 4 blue cheese from seed, 1 purple #1 from seed this one is my fav. right now naturaly bushy and huge after 5 weeks. and 2 sweet tooths. i also have some seedlings from some recent smoke 3 from a kush and 2 from bubble gum(that was some grade A smoke too)not including the seedlings total in veg: 23 total in flower: 11 my max capacity is supposed to be 60 im trying to get on a 15 plant perpetual cycle.

Perpetual would be sweet. We hope to do that eventually. Ol' dude just txted me and told me one of the babies broke ground. It was the one we planted from the paper towel germination.

good luck man. patience is key and shortcuts aren't the same as keeping budget. learn to do everything precise careful and patiently you will succeed no matter what your style is and the 2nd best piece of advice i can give is less is more. equilibrium is reached when plants are fed at the rate at which they grow. dry medium and small constant waterings(oz or 2 of water) with little to no nutes then nute feedings once a week in addition after first 2 weeks. oh and this might actually be the most important label everything and make records.

Sorry I couldn't get some pics up. :( I've had to work and my P.I.C. is at beerfest and won't be home until like 2am. I promise I'll get some up soon though.
And on the subject of lighting, I found a 1000w hps/mh with ballast, hood, and timer. The whole complete set for $270. Would that be sufficient for what I'm trying to do? I figured we could shoot for a yeild of 1/2lb for the first run.

too expensive you can find a better deal than that. but yeah that will take care of the lighting in that space. you will be able to grow much taller plant too.and if a half is the goal it could put you in that range. just depends on you.

That was the cheapest one I have found thus far. I found that one on ebay. The ones on amazon were more. I couldn't find any on craigslist. :/

Those are a good bit cheaper. =)
As far as setting up the light, would I just hang it in the middle of the room and have the plants taking up the entire floor space? Or would they need to be directly under it?

keep them as close to the light as possible without burning them and take up as much space as they need as they grow spread them out.

closer to the light the better. dont just fill space becasue there is space they wont recieve as much light if its hung up high then if down in close on a few plants. its when the plants flower they expand and will fill the space adn light will have to be hung up high to cover the entire area

yes a 1000watt would be sufficient you can pull an about an lb per 1000 or more but everything has to be perfect. and you can keep them short by just tying the tops down, how long you planning on vegging for? and dont be a cheap ass with your grow the more you put in the more you get out like everything else. and if your gonna run 1 1000watt dont get a little pos reflector get the biggest one like the raptor or the great white reflector you want the most spread of light you can get. if its cool enough where you live you might not even need an air cooled hood and could run a cheap adjust-a-wing or a parabolic
