Starting my first grow! CFL Autoflowering Single Plant Closet Grow! (w/ Pictures)

Hey folks!
Glad to be here. Ive been hanging around here for a good while. Finally made an account and decided to initiate my first grow. (I have experimented with growing bag seed before, but it was essentially neglect, and I ended up with decent bud out of luck.)

I have ordered 5 Russian Rocket Fuel feminized seeds, by Short Stuff seeds, from dope-seeds.com. Still expecting them in the mail.

I plan on doing one plant for my first attempt. I will do the moist paper towel method of germination.

Few questions first off.

I am using CFL bulbs. I plan to use
a) one 42+ watt CFL in 2700k, as well as a few 26 watters in the 6500k.
or
b)four 23 watt in 2700k with 1 or 2 in 6500k.

Went to walmart and they only had this in stock.

I that one number is 2700 lumens, not 2700k. Does anyone know what color temp this runs at? If not, I will probably order a 105 watt 2700k bulb online

The plants have about 24" of space to grow upright, although I highly doubt it will reach 18"!

I am using a 1 gallon tropicana orange juice jug cut off at the top as my pot. I think this will be neat, being about to use the handle as way to water the roots directly, instead of from the top of the soil. I know light is bad for the roots, so should I paint the jug so light cannot pass through at all?

I am not expecting much from this plant. If I get 7g from it I will be more than happy.

Any tips/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Here are some pics of my setup so far. I am adding a fan for circulation, and obviously more bulbs/lighting.

Welcome to RIU man!

i like your setup so far, couldn't tell you what the spectrum of that light is. I would suggest going to homedepot or lowes to find higher wattage bulbs. they also have a bigger selection than walmart and a lot of them will tell you what the light spectrum is.

i have a few questions for you.

What type of soil are you using?
Are you going to use nutes? if so what kind?
Are you going to make a new box for your single plant? I only ask because the gaps in your current setup let out a lot of light. light that could be used to give your plant more light. also could pose a problem when flowering.

i like your jug idea, but i would i hope that you would still water around the rest of the soil top(which im sure you will). roots wont grow in dry spots. The jug color should reflect most of the light, but i assume you could paint it to block out any unwanted light.

Thanks for the comments guys!

Ok so here is an update.

I purchased a 65w (300 equiv.) 2700K CFL from the local Lowes, and I also purchased a clamp on bulb reflector from walmart, similar to this one.

I will probably pick up another 42 watt bulb to bump up the wattage to 107 actual watts. Do you think this one should be 2700k, 5000k or 6500K?

I am going to change my setup completely.

I am going to do a rubbermaid/sterilite storage tote grow and scrap what I have for now. I plan to get one large enough for one plant only, and I will line the walls and lid with mylar.

I was even considering a 55 gallon trash bin as well! Has anyone done a grow inside of a trash can?

Put a hole in one end with a fan blowing in and a hole on the other side blowing out for air exchange.

I will be using Sta-Green soil, and probably wont be using nutrients other than some local bat guano.

I might switch the pot to a 2 gallon paint/wash bucket.

What does everyone think?

I appreciate the posts so far, and am anticipating the seeds this week! Cant wait!

I have successfully grown mushrooms in bulk, so I think growing a little weed should be easy I hope.

In the veg state you want around 70% 6500k and in flower reverse that to 70% 2700k. You seem to have mostly 2700 in veg.

Thanks for the replies. I will update with a picture of the bulb I got from lowes. I know that one in the picture is 2700 lumens, not K, which I stated in the original post.

The new bulb is 2700k soft white.

This is an autoflowering strain, so it will automatically start flowering after 2-3 weeks. I will probably buy a 42w cfl in the 6500k just to run all the time on it.

Well, I am going to use a powerstrip setup with the 65 watt (300 equiv 2700k) and 2x 42 watt (150 equiv 2700k). That is 149 actual watts, which should be more than enough for one plant! I have purchased all the bulbs, and a couple of space blankets made of mylar to use. I am not going to use a grow box or cabinet. I will just put the single plant in the corner of my closet, which has flat white walls.

I will then construct a piece of cardboard that is tall and folded in the middle, so I can box it in to the corner of the closet. This too will have reflective material on it. I will but a 4" desk fan on the floor, blowing upwards toward the plant. Considering it will be in open air, I think ventilation should not be a major issue.

Still not certain to go 24/7 or 20/4.

I will probably go with a 3 liter soda bottle as a pot, and I will use Sta-green potting mix.

I am still unsure of whether to use nutes or not.

I know it will only benefit, but I still am worried I will screw something up.

Are they easy to comprehend? Can anyone suggest a good flowering nute that is readily available at, say walmart, lowes, or home depot?

Thanks everyone.

Nice start man. I like the trash can grow idea..kiinda like that one guys tube grow, but bigger. Line that sucker with mylar, and add a couple power strips on the sides with a few of those 26 watters on Y-splitters for supplemental side lighting, and your good to go. I would go with more wattage for sure...maybe the 65/2x42/8x26

As for the bucket - go with a 5gal Home Depot bucket, you know the orange one thats like 5 bucks. Drill holes in the bottom, put a couple inches of pebbles on the bottom, fill the rest with a soil/perlite mix.

Anyway, thats what I would do

Pebbles are a good idea, but if you get them from outdoors be sure to cook them in the oven for a while to make sure you kill any bugs, or bug eggs. If you don't you may be introducing some unwanted guests into your grow space.

I like your creativity. I am in the midst of transferring 10 plants that have been vegging for about a little over 2 weeks. I jumped into things once I got my seeds not thinking that all the seeds I germinated would make it...I sorta got ahead of myself and because of this have really put my plants through lots of stress by moving them around trying to get a grow room set up...I've moved them daily almost...I really hope I don't get all males and hermies due to my lack of planning. Most of them seem to be doing really nicely....ima newb...my next go around will be much smoother..ive learned lots from sites such as this...anyways, good luck my friend. Keep us updated.
