Starting new seedlings with 5 month old bag of Coco?

I have half a bag of Coco from my last grow, it’s been sitting on the patio, and it’s about 5 months old.

Any reason why this would be a problem to use as a starter for new seedlings in Solo cups? I’m going to buy a couple of bags of new Coco for transplanting.

This is just an observation from some of your posts....why dont you toss that coco and just use new if you're buying it anyways? That way you will have less variables to worry about if problems arise?

What is wrong with 5 month old coco? I just transplanted a couple plants into coco from re-hydrated bricks that are at least two years old.

You need to get those closer to the light so they don't get so spindly.

Light? I just terminated them, when do they need to go under lights? They haven’t even developed those Cyco leaves, whatever those first leaves are called.

That’s why I want to get them into coco now.

It's fine. I'd be more concerned about getting more light on those seedlings. They look pretty wet. Are you spraying them? No need to.

I'm smoking some Critical Kush right now.

Those rapid rooters are soaking and sitting in a nutrient rich environment.

Spray? No.

I’m going to introduce these to 18/6 starting today at 4pm. Neat thing about this stage is seeing changes by the hours. This was the soonest I’ve put seedlings into transplant. Hope I can move them to 3 gal pots on the first, and kick off the New Years right.

I’m looking forward to both these strains, Critical Kush and Bluniverse. The other 2 might as well be ‘bagseed’ for all I know. The CK has me a little bit worried that it might get a little unruly on me.

In a sealed bag.

If I guy buy new coco today, I’ll use about 1/20th of the bag now, and then transplant into 3 gallon pots in 2-3 weeks, so the new stuff would be laying around too.
Call me paranoid, but leaving grow medium outside for indoor growing is a terrible idea.at least get it into a trash can with lid, rubbermaid tote with lid, etc.you can never be too vigilant imo.

That stuff sits on pallets outside all the time. Garden centers and grow stores have all kinds of grow medium stored outside. Who knows where and how that Ocean Forest and Happy Frog has been stored along the supply chain.

After growing outdoors for awhile,I moved indoors a little over a year ago to avoid bad weather and pests. one of my first runs I had fungus gnats.came from a bale of promix from the garden center (stored outside)I presume.now I buy my promix months out from when I need it,store it in a trash can and either leave it in the barn or tucked inside somewhere.so far,so good.do whatever you want, but leaving it laying around outside is an open invitation for problems imo.

I cant control what my local grow store does with mediums, but I can once I buy it.it's an easy extra step for me to try and at least minimize and control any possible problems that may pop up.last thing I want is to have to introduce some sort of bug killer/bombs into my home,in order to eradicate some tenacious bugs.:peace:
