starting seeds with rockwool

I put my cubes in phed water for half an hour then put in the seeds
in a day or so when the cube becomes dry, it says to mist it with phed water, how much do I mist it? 2 or 3 sprays per side makes the sides wet but not soaking wet like when I put in the seeds

is this enough, or should I be going for the soaking wet route?

I like starting them in between paper towel(Ph water) then in a tupperware with lid slightly open then into a dark kitchen cabinet. Very easy to do and should shoot within 2-3 days. As soon as i see a tap root i put them into Ph cubes 1/4-1/2 inch deep covering the top as well. U want the cubes wet but not always soaked as the roots will rot. feed a lil at a time so they almost dry between feedings . Let me know if u need more detail.

keep R/W moist and steady warm.I take a pippette and put about 3ml of ph water when it looks drying out or does not produce a beaded sweat look on the back of my hand when touching the cube.

RW can easily deceive people who are unfamiliar with it. Even though the outside is dry the moisture on the inside takes much longer to dry out so take it easy on the watering.

I germ in rockwool and usually don't have to re-water. I just soak the small cubes in PH'd water for 20-30min, drop in the seed, pinch the top a little (just enough to cover the hole), and put under a humidity dome and on a heat mat. Usually takes 5 days tops and I would say my success rate is 90%.

If you continuously water the rockwool when germing, you risk rotting the seed. Air humidity will do you more good than substrate moisture, so use a dome.

I tried with 3 seeds originally, two of them died about a day and a half after sprouting, I think I didn't water them quickly enough

the other one was looking good about 7 days into it, was starting to see the 2nd leaves starting to form. After that I get home one day the leaves are super curled up and the once white roots sticking out the bottom are now brown

I killed it after 3 days no progress, the roots were kinda brownish and it wasn't going to make it anyway

I use 26w cfl about 2 inches away, no nutes only phed water, any ideas?

Since you might have an accidental splash with water spraying. Have a cup of that same water available and dip the cubes in it when they get dry.

I soak my new cubes in ph 6 water for 20 minutes.I take them out,and while not squeezing them I wrist flick the water out.I then put them in a new solution with a very mild nutes,it would be between 1/8th -1/16th strength, and of course ph 6.After 20 minutes I take them out, flick off excess water, use a sterile razor to cut a 1/4" slit opposite of factory hole, plant the seed sideways 1/8" deep, and cover gently with a teared off corner piece. From then on follow the golden rule:Less is more for seedlings and clones.
