Stealth Closet Grow

cool thanks for the good advice and kind words...i was planning on a 440 cfm inline but the carbon filter for that is huge, and the guy at the store was saying it could be overkill...only reason i went with smaller fan was b/c of the size of the carbon filter. right now the temps are about 5 degrees higher then the outside room and i do not have the exhaust or intake working at the moment, but once i get the 400 i know it will be hot. i am gonna give it a couple test runs and see how the temps go once i get this...Adorama Darkroom Light Tight Louvers, 8"X8". will let you guys know how its. have seen a couple post where people used them and liked em, so i will let you know...babies are looking great and all them are starting to stand tall..plan on switching pots and putting the 400 on them in the next week or so..

spliff:::: how are the 2 400's in there? was thinking of buying another one. hard to pass up a deal for $119. are those reliable lights / systems? currently i have sun system, but have only got 1 grow under my belt so still new...
AHhh... you must be talking about HTGSupply. I love having the second light, its actually a new addition to my room and I'm somewhat of a newbie myself.

Both my lights are from HTG and they have been great so far. Given the grow space 3x5, I think two 400's is ideal for what I want to do. I can fit 30+ plants with SoG if need be. Some would say, why not just get a 600 w or 1000 w. my response to that is having two lights gives you more flexibility on adjusting the height for different plant sizes. I add plants to the room at different times from month to month, so one of the lights is always higher than the other.

If you are just planinng on growing 5 or 6 plants though, one light should do the trick...

I would recomend, since your room is closed off and ventalation might be an issue, to pay a little extra and get the 6" easy cool hood if you get another 400.
It seems to me, that becuase you want to use the carbon filter, you might need to vent the lights with one fan and vent the room with the carbon filter and another fan. That would def do the trick. Because I'm a cheap ass and didn't wanna buy two fans, I ditched the carbon filter and just chose to vent the two hoods.

That's where I got my light at HTG supply. The bulb they give you is nice. You can't beat it for $119. I think i paid 132 with shipping and everything. Buy it directly from HTGsupply don't go through no bidding site. The reflector is junk though, my suggestion is to buy another one or just buy the bulb and ballast and by a new reflector seperate.....good luck

The light from HTG is gonna get just as hot as any other light of the same wattage. Yes the reflector will get hot, just like any other metal reflector. Any reflector you get is gonna get hot. That's why I mentioned that for your setup, it would be good to get an air coolable reflector for a little extra money. Right now you might not think it's worth it, but you probably will in a few months.
You will be able to make better use of the light as well, because you will be able to keep the light much closer to the plants. I get mine as close as 3 inches.
In your situation you won't be able to keep the ballast out of the room so that will increase temp as well. Keep the ballast as high as possible.
The more I think about it, given your situation ventilation is going to be crucial, the more the better. You should try putting that HPS on for a day or two and monitor the temp increase.

Yeah I'll Probably Go With An Air Cooled Reflector For Sure...i Wanna Get The Light As Close As Possible And Thats Sounds Like The Best Way. What Size Of Fan Do I Need For That. Could I Just Buy One Of The Small Inline Duct Fans? I Already Have The Ballast Mounted Up High, Right Next To The Carbon Filter, Will Also Have A Small Fan Blowing On The Ballast. Will Give It A Test Run Once I Recieve My Intake, And Will Let You Know The Results...when You Exhaust Your Room Does The Temp Change Immediatly?

The Pics I Posted At The Very Begining Were About All I Can Get. Once I Get It The Room Its Kinda Hard To Take Pics B/c The Area Is So Small. I Have Taken Pics Of All The Impostant Stuff But There Are No Pics Of The Light As Of Yet B/c I Have Not Got It Mounted Yet. If There Is Something You Would Like To See, Just Ask And I Will Take A Pic...but Like I Said Its 3 X 5 X 8 So Its Not Huge...but It Is Very Stealth...kinda Loud When The Exhaust Is On Though..BUT IT HAS ALREADY PASSED THE TEST A COUPLE OF TIMES...I FIGURE NO COMPANY IS GOING TO OPEN MY CLOSET DOOR SO I SHOULD BE GOOD...LOL

I use a 300 cfm to exhaust two 400 w hoods. For one hood you could probably get away with one of the smaller inline duct fans that they sell at Home Depot that are much cheaper than the ones you get at a hydro store.

The temp will take some time to drop, but it all depends on the power of the fan that you are using to suck the air out. I like to help the intake system by putting a fan (not an inline duct fan) right infront of the intake hole to help blow fresh air in.
