I'm putting final touches on my design; looking for some HPS advice on what i've done.

'Stealth CAB'

Depth - 22"
Width - 28"
Height - 35"

430 Watt HPS placed on top, with glass panel over the cutout.
3x 23Watt CFL
X 3 80 CFM 12VDC Fans, intake adjustable.
80CFM fan blowing into the reflector and out 6" ducting.

The design for the 430 HPS Reflector, is this safe or a fire waiting to happen?
I'm not very familiar with HPS lighting systems and space limitations.

I would get any insualtion and tape away from your hps for starters. Also I wouldnt have anything touching the inside or outside of the reflector and give your self at least 6 inches from your reflector to the ceiling or anything around it. You may want to extend your box and drop the reflector from chains instead of sticking it on top.

Hmm...boxes from BC northern lights have contained hoods such as yours idea. You could look on youtube where I saw a video of the urban grower reviewing hte boxes which gives you a good look at the lighting system. As long as you effectively cool the hood and don't have like wood to metal contact I wouldn't see why it is alright. Ofcourse, a high temp shut off might be a good idea with a design like this. They come standard in the Sentinel MDT-1 timer or C.A.P. sells them individually which could effectively save you from a bad situation if the exhaust fan quit or did not effectively cool the space.

Just a tip:
negative air pressure is way more effective for ventilation than positive. so instead of having the fan blow into the cab reverse it and make it blow out, sucking cool air in and hot out. it will give you better CFM's in both directions.
also suspend the HPS from the top as the previous posters said, this will reduce your risk of fire:fire:, you dont want to smoke your buds before there ready! :-P

Wow. Thats a lot of wattage for that size box. I hope you have a dimmable ballast...it may come in very handy. Heat will be a problem.

Good luck!
