the forums at stinkbuddies is down right now so im posting here =)

Im about to build my first stinkbud flower system but I dont understand how you're supposed to prevent algae when you're supposed to have those 2 openings in the rubbermid that will allow light in. Whats the deal with this? Does anyone have a way to block the light?

I recently had a panic where I was going to run UV light in my res because the frozen milk jugs I put in there to cool the res would get slimey on the side that was out of the water.. So I asked Dr.GreenThumb and he said if you res temps are in check, you don't need to worry about it. So I brought up to him that anything just over the water line gets a little slimey. He said don't worry... His does too, he never has problems.

But still my mind is racing around the idea. I might want to get a taller res, then chop out 4 inch square holes in the side to slip the rail through, but leave the lip on top for the lid. Then my rails will go through the side and my lid will be completely sealed. What do you think of that idea meowmix? If it will be too weak I will stack a res inside another res and make it 2 ply.

If you are really worried about light getting in the holes then use funnels. This will also soften the noise of the waterfall effect.

The sound never bothered me, but I switched to funnels just because its easier in the end. My res's are sort of tucked under the rails and once your plants get to a good size I think they shade most light out of the res anyway....but just use funnels....solves most probs.
