Substitute isopropyl for water??

I was going to attempt to make hash out of a big male plant that I have but I have some questions first. I read the faq and it says to blend the clippings with isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol), I dont have any iso alcohol and I'd rather not use it, can I substitute that for water or anything else, or does only iso alcohol have the right effect?

Water wont work. If you dont want to use rubbing alcohol, I dont see why pure grain would not work.

I hate the alcohol method, shit taste and you still get too much plant material. I much prefer the butane method for the really nice "Honey Hash" mmmmmm.

Ok, I started a thread on male plants, but I'm gonna take a stab here, too, if the original poster doesn't mind (you don't mind, do you?). How far do you have to let the plants go once they start to show sex? Their balls are getting big, but they haven't popped yet.
