Does anyone know what goes into a substrate bag and where to find the bags themselves? Also, has anyone used them to any success?

you can use corn, rye berries, wood chips....depends on what the mushroom you are growing likes... most magic ones like corn or rye, cant go wrong

Spawn Bags with Filter Patch

they sell the empty bags. cheap too (1000 for $400, more than you would ever need)
i have never made my own, most places that sell them are pretty resonable and im not too sure how to sterilize a plastice bag without an autoclave?

Mushbox Mushroom Grow Bag - Pre-sterlized and ready to inject
these are allready sterilized and youcan get 4 for $65.. and they include an autohealing injector point... and has 3lbs of sterilized rye in each one.

its easier to get BULK substrate out of the bag then it is to get it out of a 1/2gal jar...
and the bags are lighter and cheaper to ship!

they are good for creating a lot of substrate (mushroom roots) to spread out and make a larger mushroom bed... meaning more mushrooms

hope this helps man!

no prob!
yea i ordered 6 1/2gal mason jars with rye berries allready in them.. cost about as much to ship them here! and each one was only half way full .. maybe 1/4 lb?

bags are just a better deal, and easier to work with...
once the substrate is colonized it forms to the jar and only real way to break it up is beating it on a tire or roll of duct tape (something with give) and i didnt really like brusiing it up that much...

tip.. if you DO make your own its easy to make a self healing injector point... put a dot of silicone on the filter patch smaller than a dime, and inject through that...

good luck!
