Is 150w HPS enough for 5 plants grown in soil?

They will grow but not to their full potential. If you want to grow 5 plants (in lets say 3 gal pots) id say a 400w minimum.
150W= 1.25X1.25' area.
250W=2'X2' area
400W=3'X3' area
600W=3.5'X3.5' area
1KW=4'X4' area
That is a general rule of thumb giving you roughly 50W per ft2. Not to say you cant use a smaller light to maintain a bigger area, it just wont be the optimum conditions.
