I grow a native sunflower - native to Texas......It doesn't have a huge center and the seeds are small. There's a specific type of bee that I only see on this plant. I've seen birds pluck seeds out of flowerheads and I've seen a squirrel run off with a flower head that I had cut off!! It's great to have them in my garden! Here's a pic from last yr cuz mine haven't started blooming yet!! Also, look for the bee in the center of the flowerhead!!

very cool!

we have a squirrel who plays in the corner of our yard that i planted with sunflowers, he's in for the best surprise of his life when he sees the sunflowers growing again. he had a great time on them last year.

i would always wake up and wonder what the hell was all the noise i heard, it was the squirrel feverishly picking sunflower seeds early in the morning.

Mine have been above the soil for about a week now. I've got them staggered along the back fence for sole privacy from the neighbors. I'm growing mammoths and another shorter more colorful variety I can't remember the name of. Got a bunch I started indoors to plant yet. Having trouble uploading pics right now ill try and get them up later.

Hells yeah I'm in! I'm so glad to see people growing flowers just for the hell of it. Mine are about 8 weeks in and about 3 feet tall. My goal is 12 foot tall mammoth. I'm not going to post pics until they flower though because right now my flower garden looks like an area of my yard that needs to be mowed. Game on!

mine are sustaining some light insect damage on some leaves, but overall looking good.

sky Dog is providing the irrigation for now and they love it. they're almost taller than the duck fence now.

pics to follow soon enough.

:leaf: So here's where I'm at so far! The first pic is of 3 Texas native sunflowers. The tallest is close to 4ft! The second pic shows flowerheads about to start flowering!
