it's going to smell a little at first, especially with the fish bone meal in there. but it will mellow out after a week or two. You are composting soil so you should expect a little bit of smell, if you think something is off dump it out and give a good stir, you don't want it to go anaerobic.

If it is a earthy fishy smell your good but if it smells like ammonia.... it went anaerobic.........cause=too wet & not enough oxygen ....if that's the case just dump out let dry.....

yep let it dry so all the bactieria currently in it will die for the most part then rehydrate it a small bit after a few days dry and seal it back up. septic smell is bad you want to smell, bread or wine smells, fish smell and some ammonia smell is ok. but fir the most part think "sweet" smells.

dont know cover it with a tarp or some plastic hold it down with some stones. i got to do the same thing. my soil is anaerobic and i want to spray it with pesticide

Just let it dry out.....spread it in a designated area in a thin layer.....preferably in the sun until it dries out fully....don't worry though mane it has happened to me a few times because I forget to crack my barrels......never had a problem with a batch that has went anaerobic.......

also dont let hotsauce get a rise out of you.

and you said something about traching you soil?

listen cloes these will be the only things you will ever need to buy and after you dump old soil back to be used again add these things in the proper doses.

dolomite lime(3$) peat(3cft is pretty cheap 15-20$) cococoir(15$ for a big brick that will expand into a ton)

and so long as you are using nutrients or teas you will not need to add fertilizers( compost, gauno, meals ect) again.

so long as you got those 3 things your soil will aways be fresh(given your ratio of rock like matierial is correct to start with IE perlite)

another super soil question i know its stupid but im a newb so here it goes, do you guys use your roots soil that you have vegged in when you transplant to supersoil after the 30 first days? or add new roots soil or whatever base soil you use?

what do you mean?leave the soil on the roots of the plant you are transplanting, then yes you do.

as far as your base soil goes, you should just mix it all into your super soil abd start from super soil or WTFE people call it. really its just soil and cooking is not required its a good thing and will make things go along faster(gowth wise) but your soil would "cook" while plants are growing in it.

so just to make this clear soil is soil is soil. some mixs are better than others, but as far as microbial populations go "cooking" is only to give you a jump start on the process.

Mine smells like ammonia, but it is the roots organic that smells like that, I just got 2 joints off a plant veged for 3 months... I mite have to stop growing, i put every thing i had into this grow, and RToots organic Fucked me hard.... Next year when i get my funds up, I am going to grow some bomb ass weed in super soil made with fox farm ocean forest and happy frog soil, Always had great results intill i took all your guys advise and swicthed to roots organic and got screwed.... than I was dumb enough to try to use roots organic again because everyone says it is so good. F- taht bull shit, back to what works next year. I should of know better than to use soil that smells like window cleaner right out of the bag..... live and learn i guess.
Noob here but I'm under the impression that so many people use Roots Organic with no issues that your issue can't be just the soil (unless you got some freak bag of toxic soil somehow.) Curious about a couple things:

Plain Roots Organic or the 707 version?
Did you use Subcool Super Soil recipe or did use it right out of the bag with nothing added?
Did she veg like normal?
Were there any issues early on with the grow?
How big was she after 3 months of veg?
Did anything else change or literally just the soil?
What strain was it and how long did you flower for?

FWIW, I haven't noticed any smell at all, even when mixing it. I was making small batches though, only 30 gal worth. Maybe my sense of smell just sucks.

yeah man soils straight out the bag are usually mostly compost and need to be mixed with inert ingredients b4 trying to grow weed in them. the soils are made for other plants not weed plants. MJ does best in a low nutrient content soil super soil not only stretchs you soil mix out, but gives a better lower ratio of fertilizer to inert, more suited to growing MJ.
