I think i found out what is wrong with my plants. the veins have stayed green but the leafy material is yellowing. It seems that many photos of Iron def look just like what i have. How do i supplement iron? also, i read that mixing iron supplements with my fert will cause a reaction that may lock out my plant. how can i avoid this? can i foliar feed iron?

Cal-mag plus has iron in it. I think too much P can lock out iron. If you are growing hydro, the magnets in the pumps can cause iron to precipitate out.

Actually, P fixes iron deficiency. It's the other way around, not enough P will cause iron to lock out. Still, most growers won't recommend you raising the P concentration in order to avoid nute burn.

Fixing iron deficiency is easy. Rusty water (no kidding), iron chelates, ferric oxide, ferrous oxide, ferrous sulfate, greensand, gottonseed meal, garden manure, cal-mag, molasses (2 tbs/gallon) or any fertilizers with iron will fix your problem.

Edit: Also note that iron, sulfur and copper deficiencies look pretty much the same: all cause new growth to turn light green to yellow. The differences are: copper causes the tips to turn yellow first and sulfur also causes the plants general color to turn a bit lighter.

You got it wrong my friend. Go to the Plant problems forum...too much P locks out iron, just like I said. If you don't know the answer, don't be giving out bad info.

Blackstrap molasses has iron, but as doc said if you've already over fertilized you may be locking out nutes. Micro deficiencies are much more rare than an acid PH caused by over fertilization or poor soil.

Check your PH, and if it's acid, flush with very dilute molasses.

You're right... I was thinking Potassium... K. Nutes with K usually help in cases of iron def, P just worsens the situation.

Hey thanks for the replies guys! My PH is never lower than 5.0 its usually a bit higher at around 7 by the time i check it and lower it again back to 5.0-6.0

I think im going to buy the Cal-Mag plus and supplement that in small doses to see if it helps. It has many of the stuff that may be missing..iron, cal, mag, etc..
