Sure To Grow Loose Fill?

Ive heard that stuff can grow algae and its really expensive. Why would you wanna leave hydroton? The best thing besides hydroton is black neoprene inserts. They sell 5 in. You can grow some decent sized plants if you tie them up or support them. Even scrog might work to hold em up. Your roots will get super oxygen this way for faster growth.

Maybe it's just the hydroton I bought but it's leaving a shit ton of dust and particles in my water despite the fact that I rinsed the hell out of it before I began my grow. I know it's made of clay and some dust is to be expected I assume but it's a lot.

i use neither. for the longest time, i have used recycled tire mulch as media. it is 9 bucks a .7 cf bag. It is fully reuasble and leaves no residue. Plant love it. Does not wick tho. So I only use it hold plants in dwc netcups or one gallon buckets to flood. I read somewhere the best medium ever is actually by the numbers lava rocks. However they get heavy and you have to be careful moving them as they can cut up the roots with sharp edges. I bought some sure top grow to experiment. It does not wick like I thot it would. That is the only reason I would leave my rubber mulch.

I found some rubber mulch via amazon. 20lb bag for $12.60. No real info on it though as to whether it's inert and PH neutral.

Also the loose fill sure to grow stuff looks like shredded media whereas their Hail media looks like foam cubes. If I can find it cheap I may give it a shot on some bag seed. That way if it goes to shit it's no big deal.

Did you use the name brand dutch hydroton? I use a pasta strainer and wash it for a few minutes straight. I shake it up real good while im doing this. I've never had any problems with it.

Yeah I just bought some hydroton from Amazon. I did do like you did though and rinsed it in a strainer for about 20 mins, moving it around and such.
