Surprised by how much they eat and drink

First run with coco and I already made the mistake of under watering and under feeding them in solo cups.

By the 3rd week they would drink everything in the solo cup overnight and the next day the top of the coco was bone dry and the cups light.

My mistake was thinking I can follow a set schedule and just water every other day in veg but leaving the coco dry like that between waterings they started to wilt and by week 4 the first set of leaves on one
plant was even crispy and dead.

Transplanted them in 1 gallon fabric pots and watered them every other day because the bigger pots take longer to dry out. They started to perk up but now after a few days in the new pots they are starting to wilt again even though the coco wasn't bone dry for that non watering day.

They are also eating a lot more than expected. By the 3rd week they were showing signs of nitrogen and calmag deficiency (yellowing leaves with spots) I was giving them full dose of calmag and a little over 1/4 strength veg nutes well over 500ppm.

Now within the 4th week I'm giving them over full strength calmag and 1/2 strength veg nutes and I'm still not sure if it's enough. The new undergrowth looks lush dark green but most of the leaves are light green in early and late stages of deficiencies.

My question is for next time how much do you guys feed them in coco for veg and do you reduce it by flower?

Using fox farm trio and following the schedule but cutting it down to 1/2 big bloom which is organic and for the grow big around 1/8 to 1/4. Maybe because the big bloom is organic and kind of weak the plant needs full feedings of that specific bottle. Thinking about switching to GH micro after the big bloom runs out.

They should not be in the cups that long. By the time the second week is passed they need to be potted up to half to 1 gallon.
I agree because I heard once you have to water everyday it's time to transplant and that was around the second week mark.

I'm kind of confused on how much they eat too. Everyone says ohh use 1/4 strength nutes and keep around 300-500ppm during veg.

I had over 500ppm on the 3rd week and it still wasn't enough and full calmag wasn't even enough.

Yet people say ohh only use a tiny bit of calmag this this and that.

Meanwhile my plants were starving by the 3rd week giving them 1/4 strength fox farm and full calmag.

How much in general do they eat in coco should I follow the feeding schedule and give them full strength?

I start off on quarter strength and gradually increase it. Different strains feed differently so just read your plants. If there starting to get a little lighter shade of green add a little more nutes. I only give them a small amount of calmag in veg. When I switch to 12/12 I up the calmag.

What is the ppm of your water? Maybe your water already has calmag in it. My water is soft at 60ppm and with full calmag I still saw calmag deficiency spots.

Yea mate mines pretty hard. It’s like 0.4 or something. If you’ve got soft water you’ll need to add some from the beginning.

Cool it's all starting to add up now lol. I assumed full calmag would be fine or even too much because the label on the bottles always say to use more than necessary.

Turned out the opposite. Full strength calmag was actually too little with 60ppm tap water.

I think the fox farm big bloom is kind of mild too I have to use a lot of that stuff to keep them loaded.

I use canna so I’m not familiar with fox farm atall. I’m sure there’s plenty of guys on here with experience with it that can help out. Be carful with the nutes though don’t go to crazy with them you’ll burn them. Just see your post about American seed companies. I only do fems too. You should give karma genetics a go. I started trying their gear 6 months ago. They’ve got some serious fire!

Thanks for the advice I'll try not to overdue it.

Dude.. karma has fems? When I checked on OES I think they only had regs.

Yea mate. I’ve done their sour power from Karma squad and they were awesome. Only don’t a few of their headstash but the quality was also top shelf. They also have fruit bowl and orange sorbet which il be poppping next month so il see how they are but if what I’ve done already from them I’d anything to go by they’ll be good. They’ve got a few other fems that I haven’t tried yet check them out on attitude. You from the UK?
