Switching to CMH on 3x6 trays... advice??

I wouldn't air cool the 630 de, its not that hot. And if you're trying to get away with less lights and more coverage you'll have to keep the light higher anyway.

Plus I believe when these bulbs are cooled they aren't as efficient.
Yep, I just want to get that version so I have the option to run them air cooled with the regular 1000 watt metal halides as well. Do you have any experience with the 630's?

Lol... It’s obvious you haven’t had any real experience with LEC. It’s really disappointing to see these kinds of posts. Why do growers without any practical experience always have to chime in with their opinion? It just makes for a lot of confusion.

I respectfully disagree with your entire post. First of all, all of the commercial indoor/greenhouse facilities that I am aware of have been exclusively using LEC lighting except for a couple facilities that are using high end LED lighting. I’m not aware of any commercial ops installing hid/hps these days. If you know of any I would be interested to know. That would be an extremely poor business decision.

Why do you think LEC has a problem with penetrating the canopy? That’s just not the case at all.

Internodes are shorter with LEC compared to hps, not longer.

LEC produces higher quality, along with more terpenes, cannabidoids and potency than hid/hps.

“More leaf, less flower” - Not from my experience.


LEC produces healthier plants compared to hid/hps. You would do yourself a big favor if you would pick up an LEC, grow some plants and then you could see for yourself bro...

Absolutely unequivocally he will get a lower yield. Better quality (but not so huge its a game changer - hps still makes a nice flower). If a grower is solidly consistent and use to the yield time in and time out from hps he will be disappointed. I know of a 4x600 hps grower (2 actually) that traded down from 2400 watts to 1200 of cmh. Guess what? Half the yield...slightly more. And these are PRO growers with sealed rooms that have been Michigan caregivers for at least 6 years. Ive seen it (and helped trim one of ems crop recently). Nice buds....smelly..but smaller. I can see cmh being a great supplement to hps but some of you make these magical claims that somehow a 315 cmh will out perform or equally yield a 600 watt sodium. IT DOESNT...PERIOD!!! My one buddy almost always got about 5 and a quarter pounds (about 85 zips tirimmed dried and cured ready medicine) maybe a little more or less give or take with a solid run of a Blue Dream variant from Sin City called White Nightmare. Hes ran this cultivar for sometime now. He switched up and has ran a total of 3 total runs now under 4 x 315 watt cmh fixtures from Sun Systems... The attached ballst LEC with the bulb that came with the system. Under 2 3x6 trays in rockwool drip to waste blocks. Nice room. He got a solid 45 to 50 zips..all 3 runs. CMH is great SUPPLEMENT to hps. Giving the damn near perfect spectrum...but its still and HID grow light. Its not a magic lamp that you all tout it to be. Its still 315 watts of HID lamp light. A watt is a watt with these fixtures. Spectrum...way better than hps for total indoor plant light. Close to the suns spectrum. Very efficient. But its still 315 watts. You have to take it for what it is. Around 3 or pounds or less from 1200 watts. And 5.5 pounds from double the wattage. With more lamps and bigger rooms..I can see cmh really doing it proper. But to scrap 2400 for 1200 watts and expect the same yield..nope. Besides...getting a pound per 315....its not easy. Most will get 10 to 12 ounces. Its alot easier with the right strain to hit a pound and a half (slightly less)with 600 watts hps than to hit a pound with 315 cmh. That's what my buddy said anyways. Strain selection and diligent canopy management thats the key. If you bring your A game to cmh fixtures....

I agree.a watt is a watt.I don't think a suplement to hps is necessary.I think if someone were more realistic and replaced there hps watt for watt they will hands down kill hps.I replaced a 600 hps with 2 cmh and yield a lot more.replacing 1 600 with a 315 is not gonna work and people who think they will yield more are mistaken.but watt for watt cmh owns hps

I explain all that in my other post,Ambient heat is different than radiant.Plants can tolerate alot more radiant heat but if you have a higher ambiant and your radiant is about the same your plants are gonna fry.I aim for around 42,000 LUX on the outside some spots a little less.You can download a LUX app for a smartphone and it truly is one of my best tools i use in my grow rooms.especially when u have a point of reference.I never burn my plants when i use it.

I think that's an awesome lighting solution.

you could start with 4k and go to 3k.....but you can be lazy and just run 3 I think. I only ever used mine in flower anyway.
