T5 fixtures

Many years ago I saw on OG someone that did a HUUUUUUUGE grow with all T5s and he had sites listed where he got the parts to build his own huge fixtures with tons of bulbs. He bought the end peices and ballasts and everything and mounted them on boards and wired them himself. Anyone know where I could get these online?

Those retrofit kits are still expensive, how much do you think it'll cost to make a 8 bulb t-5?

Any hydro store will sell 4' T-5s with bulb and ballast for $35...then you just have to mount it somewhere

that devliviers to canada? The cheapest I have found was $70.

Where TF do you live where you can buy 4 bulbs and a ballast for $35 ???:confused:
At my local store the bulbs alone are 16.95 a piece, and the ballast (even thoug I have not priced one at the hydro store) but the ones found online to run only 2 4 foot lamps are over $40 bucks:?....T5 Fluorescent Ballasts, Components and Retrofit Reflector

Read what i wrote very carefully....i said you could buy A 4' t-5 (as in 1 4foot t-5) with a ballast.

No link, I just drive to a hydro store and there they are. I have been 2 or 3 different hydro stores and they all run $27-39 each. I am sure if you looked on ebay you could find them for cheaper.

I've done some searching and it seems that you'd be better off buying the whole t-5 system instead of buying and building your own. A ballast for 4 54 watt 4 feet fluoros run about 80 and with everything else you need it all comes to about the same price. On ebay you can get the whole setup plus bulbs for about 130 to 150. Or am I not getting something?

I agree with that, I also looked for quite a while before buying a T5 and lucked out and got a 4 foot 8 bulb for $175 off CL...BMW is probably right when he says its probably easiest to just buy a few of the single bulb fixtures and do it that way if you were only gonna use 6/8 bulbs, but if you were going to use 20-30 for some kind of insane setup, I would probably buy the ballast and other parts outright....would be a great stoner kind of day wiring up 30 or so lights:joint:

Are those 5 foot t-5s? So it would cost around 600 to make a 10 tube system at 80 watts each. 500 for the ballasts, 100 for bulbs, caps dont cost much. Then youd have to get wiring and a reflector. How do you hook up all those ballast together?

Yup, 60 inches = 5 feet. You'd wire each power supply to two bulbs only. So to do more bulbs, you'd just put combinations of two bulbs per ballast together, every two lights wired to its own ballast.
