You would like to work harder than any other minimum wage worker for less than minimum wage? I think you're missing the point.
i was thinking more in terms of experience i would gain for that one day in the not so distant horizon when prohibition is lifted. but i get your point! :eyesmoke:

to be honest though, i don't think an overwhelming part of the illegal population works farms. my indisputable evidence of this is some debatable infotainment i vaguely recall briefly perusing some time ago and am not quite sure i could find again bongsmilie.

This response is so full of fail and misinformation. If it was meant as a joke, it's a really, really bad one.

Illegal immigrants work in many sectors of the U.S. economy. According to National Public Radio, about 3 percent work in agriculture; 33 percent have jobs in service industries; and substantial numbers can be found in construction and related occupations (16 percent), and in production, installation, and repair (17 percent).[4] According to USA Today, about 4 percent work in farming; 21 percent have jobs in service industries; and substantial numbers can be found in construction and related occupations (19 percent), and in production, installation, and repair (15 percent), with 12% in sales, 10% in management, and 8% in transportation.[5]

also, please explain to me in detail how learning to install and maintain an irrigation system or the physical exercise involved in work like the UFW is offering is of any detriment to myself. otherwise, you have failed.

i applied. i would love this type of work!:eyesmoke:
I see. That's clever Buck. I think it would be hilarious if this backfired and shitloads of desperate, unemployed, American citizens applied to this and forced a bunch of illegal migrant workers out of work. I don't have the disdain that many Americans have for illegals. I understand that they are only pursuing better opportunities and a better life for them and their families. This actually kind of happened during the depression. Many Americans who were out of work forced the migrant workers out of the fields and back across the border so they could have some sort of work. Migrant workforce=disposable workforce. It sucks but it's true. If the economy gets bad enough it will probably happen again. Uncle Sam has cut off the federal unemployment assistance extensions so without that lifeline many gringos may be forced into this sort of back breaking labor and I think it would benefit us as a country.bongsmilie

Anyways, I'm not sure if this website is serious or not, but I get the point. Funny stuff UB.

The GAO has estimated that illegal immigration costs the poorest of Americans about $2K a year in income. We all know that illegals are not taking doctors', accountants', and attorneys' jobs. They are taking primarily unskilled and semi-skilled labor positions, which is where the working poor tend to get their jobs from.

For me, this highlights the complete hypocrisy of both political parties. Democrats claim to represent the "little man" ... the working man ... yet when they are in a position of authority (like now) they do little more than pay lip service to controlling our borders, which supports the status quo where our working poor see jobs go to illegals and the remaining jobs have their income artificially depressed.

As to the claim that Americans would not do the jobs that illegals perform. Hogwash. As you can see, only a minority of illegals work in the stereotypical migrant worker jobs. If all illegals were removed, then even those positions would be forced to experience wage increases in order to attract Americans into that sector.

Both political parties are playing the American people as patsies and most of you are buying right into what they are selling.

it's 100% cereal.

i applied after seeing the president of the UFW on the colbert report last night. when asked about how many americans had taken this up, he replied that currently a total of 3 people were actually working in the fields.

they are not taking our jobs, we are letting them

quite true! and that is about the only thing that actually DOES bother me about illegals coming here to work. it doesn't last very long though, i just remind myself of all the times that i worked alongside illegals. i say if you can't compete with a dude that has no papers, you lose and you deserve it. that person needs to try harder.

or just move to an mmj state and grow plants for a living.

Americans can not compete with the "dude that has no papers" because the dude that has no papers is willing to work off the books for less than minimum wage, doesn't give the boss grief about working more than 40 hours a week without getting overtime pay and doesn't file EEO complaints when the boss violates his rights as a worker.

The only thing your gonna learn is how to pick berries and fruits without damaging them, your also going to learn how to take care of sunburns, sore back, sore feet and hands that cannot close anymore due to overuse. The illegal workers do not engineer irrigation, install irrigation or maintain it, they just pick the fruit and produce. And that site is only replacing migrant farm workers, not brick layers or dry wallers etc.

it amazes me that you can be so cavalier concerning the well-being of your fellow americans, though i realize it shouldn't surprise me at all. yours is the same attitude exhibited by the political animals that insist on legislating contrary to the wishes of their constituents, fighting to bring the millions of illegal workers into our legitimate labor pool and ensnaring the citizens they displace in the coils of the welfare state. it seems that both you and they would rather see our own poor become a drain on society than allow them access to the menial labor that is all many of them are destined for.

I seriously hope he actually signs up and takes a position. Anyone who cites Wikipedia as his primary source of fact needs a good wake-up call.

Nah. Wiki is actually a fairly reliable starting source. I wouldn't ever use it as a primary source, but it can usually lead you to some pretty decent supporting documentation. I had a professor friend of mine who teaches organic chemistry tell me that the wiki entry on evolution was something he could see a talented grad student writing.

Good starting place, and usually correct when it comes to percentages and other math based facts.

says the guy who rails against 'the welfare state'. i'm not sure what that means, as your utterances are mainly fluff and light on substance and you never actually answered me when i asked you in another thread. but i take it that you show a similar cavalier callousness regarding certain americans who have legitimate reasons to rely on food stamps or unemployment insurance or medicaid. please correct me if i am wrong as i am genuinely interested in knowing what entitlements you feel worthy of your exalted approval.:eyesmoke:

Of course... why think or read or research for yourself. Why, so long as there's some good maths, it's so gotta be true!

go ahead and find me some wikipedia articles about whatever (has to be relevant, not something like the gestations and bowel movements of the peruvian hopping flea) that contains glaring factual errors. i'll be here waiting.

wiki provides a decent high-level summary in most cases. please prove me wrong so i can stop using bad resources

It quite obvious you're quite happy drinking the Kool-Aid, lad. I don't have the patience to break through that mile-thick delusion you surround yourself with, not to mention the damage it would do to my rather nice perma-buzz. Carry on, I rather enjoy watching the farce of "intellectualism" that this country's educational system and culture, or lack thereof, turns out.

so in other words, you either...

1) can't find one

or

2) cradle yourself in conspiracy theories all day and it is all just so entangled, man.

next thing you know you'll be telling me realclearpolitics.com doesn't give me a high-level overview of the generic ballot or obama's approval numbers.
