I cant see the pic fer some reason, ah well i'll check back in later to see if it pops up...

Anyhoo, not meaning to rag but...have you got an autoclave etc with your kit? are you a trained or apprenticing tattooist?
cuz if not youre standing a good chance of giving your self Hepatitis along with numerous other potential infections..Most tattooists (myself included) will still even re-sterilize any needles we buy that are labelled as "pre-sterilized"..same goes for ink tubes etc..Do you know how to set the 'throw action' of a tattoo machine and set it up for lining and then change to shading?? or have you bought seperate machines for both??

I wish you all the best luck in the world if tattooing is what you want to get into, but firstly its a tough game to get into...especially as tattooing is now seen as a cool job to get into, cuz of shows like miami ink etc.. Secondly if you do get an apprenticeship in a reputable shop, you would not be tattooing until you know ALOT about needle grouping, setting up your machines,bio-hazards,skin types, sterilization techniques, tattooing techniques, legal issues(if you ever get caught tattooing under age persons in court it is classed as CHILD ABUSE etc..)
then you would prolly be allowed to tattoo yourself/any friends who are up for it..
I wouldnt let anyone near a paying customer until theyve got it down pat..cuz i dont want my name being dirtied up by having customers who are scarred/get infections or get ink that they and YOU as a tattooist are not happy with.

If you are looking to get into a studio to apprentice... I have one suggestion that will help you greatly...be patient,Draw, draw and draw some more..If you have a particular artistic style, try to hone it... Then draw up as many sets of flash sheets that you can. Take your flash, sketch books/paintings etc to a studio and show them your skills...If youre cut out for tattooing or if they feel like you might have something to offer..you WILL get the job.

Sorry if this has hijacked your thread, but i'm more concerned about you not getting
A) sued for infecting someone while tattooining at home or wherever.
B) infecting yourself if you accidentally prick yourself
C) not scarring people by using badly hooked up machines etc
Do it right and youll have one of the most enjoyable professions in the world. :)

Ps..I Like the idea of seeing ppls ink on here...but i for one wont be posting pics.. Its too easy for the cops to match them up if you get busted...might aswell post a pic of my face in there too..Does this make sense??lol i'm tired..time for caffeine..

Go steady bro n good luck.

good advice above, and damn good tat for doing it yourself bro. definately agree with frosty's opinion on home tats, be careful and be sure you know what you are doing before you start tattin up others. we do tatoo parties and such amongst my buddies sometimes, but autoclave is a must, not an option. bad artwork is acceptable if the wearer knows the risk, but sickness/diesease is not

also agree with frosty that i wont show my tats cause they are identifiable markings, some of mine are prob even on file

lol.. i have heard some 'horror' stories about peple who have had kanji tattoos...that apparently said their names etc... but were either expletives/cantonese food dishes or infact random words, but its generally been on people who were obnoxious @ssholes..seems our oriental compadres are good judges of character and have a killer sense of humor..

no im not sure what autoclave means and i have 2 guns. i dont know how to set them up for liner and shader. i just bought them and watched a couple of vids on the net on how to do it. could you give me a few tips.

Tips would be pointless bro... you need to see this stuff first hand, be able to ask questions etc.
An autoclave, is a vacuum Sterilizer like they use in hospitals etc to do all the scalpels and shit..gets hella hot in there...kills 100% germs..ESSENTIAL piece of tattoo equipment.

like i said, if youre serious n all, hold off inking people, put the time into DRAWING, and hassle the shit outa your local tattoo studios, Maybe get a job there on reception at the weekend or something...if you are cut out for it, you'll have the tenacity to keep going and keep drawing til you get into a studio...In the meantime, dont take risks with other peoples health!!!!

well, i guess my only suggestion is to buy the nylon disposable ink tubes, pre sterilized needles, get a pressure cooker and stick the stuff in it for an hour..thats about as close as youre ever gonna get to a home sterilizing solution...fresh tubes as needles EVER time..Dont Work over the same area more than 2 times, if the ink falls out you can always put more back once its healed..work slowly...If you are using round needle groupings, work in a circular motion when filling/shading...If youre using Magnums or flats work the skin the same as you would a paint brush, sorta back n forth.

Dont stretch the skin too much when you are working it, just apply pressure, and use your fingers to take up the elasticity of the skin, too much pressure and the needles will cut/cause scarring.
Dont set needles too deep, you only want to penetrate 5 of the 7 layers of skin Max...and this is dependent on skin type.
Be aware that diferent people suffer allergic reactions to different inks..for example, Lots of people have problems with Red ink..tattoo will heal nice everywhere except where the red is..that could get VERY itchy, rash may occur aound the area, along with inflammation, almost like its been burnt...If this occurs with more than a coupla people, change you red for another...
Tribal black also creates the same problems with some people, it may need diluting, most tattoo studios do not use tribal black, as its poss to put black in to skin well enough with regular ink..Tribal black, can also "spread" in the skin, resulting in lines that were once sharp and crisp, but go fuzzy a coupla mins after theyve been done...This can be either ink related or due to your technique, usually your going too deep or working to slow on a line....can also be that the person youre tattooing has porous skin/ is dehydrated.

Do not apply vaseline to finished tattoos...it seals in any poss bacteria, and doesnt allow skin to breathe, which is fundemental for healing...Use a product that is unperfumed like Savlon antiseptic cream or a cream with vitamin E in it..Like E45 cream.

finally to tune a tattoo machine for optimal use, set up machine to power supply...apply pressure to foot switch...in good light, look at the contact arm on the machine as it goes up and down....gradually adjust voltage on the tranformer until you can see a nice up n down swaying movement, like you see on a hummingbirds wing...if you got the machine setup right youll know exactly what i mean by this.
same goes for both machine...
