'Tea Party' Photo showing crowd is a fake

Tea Party protesters trying to tout the size of their march on Washington last weekend have been passing around a photo of a packed National Mall. But the picture is years old.

Politifact asked Pete Piringer, public affairs officer for the D.C. Fire and Emergency Department, if the rally was big enough to fill that space. Piringer said no -- and moreover, the picture can't be from 2009.

"It was an impressive crowd," he said. But after marching down Pennsylvania Avenue to the Capitol the crowd "only filled the Capitol grounds, maybe up to Third Street," he said.
Yet the photo showed the crowd sprawling far beyond that to the Washington Monument, which is bordered by 15th and and 17th Streets.
There's another big problem with the photograph: it doesn't include the National Museum of the American Indian, a building located at the corner of Fourth St. and Independence Ave. that opened on Sept. 14, 2004. (Looking at the photograph, the building should be in the upper right hand corner of the National Mall, next to the Air and Space Museum.) That means the picture was taken before the museum opened exactly five years ago. So clearly the photo doesn't show the "tea party" crowd from the Sept. 12 protest.

So how many were there, by your own research based estimation? And who are these "bloggers" spreading misinformation? Are you one? Does it make the debunking easier? Clearly, it would.

I looked at over 500 images of the DC tea party and did not find this pic you show them displaying. How far did you have to dig to find this pic? How many blogs used this Pic? Any major news sources use the picture? Got any proof that someone other than some lonely blogger used this?

The Huffington post isn't left leaning at all, not at all!

The CBO has stated that this Obamacare will cost American's 1.6 trilllion dollars over the next 10 years, and even more over the next 20.

I don't give a fuck about healthcare, IT IS ALREADY THE BEST IN THE WORLD.

I care about my money, which is time, which is freedom.

Increased taxes = loss of freedom. get it?

And the least represented. People need to wake up to the fact that their freedoms are being stripped/stolen from them every day Obama is in office. Except, of course for those that don't work, don't have legal citizenship, or own their own business. Fuck Obama, and his cohorts! By very definition, they're communists. They're the only ones that don't know it because they're too stupid to know it, or in denial.

Name one fucking freedom you've been stripped of since Obama has been in office. Bush wiped the Constitution with his ass by running illegal wiretaps, The Patriot Act, stripping away the right to an Attorney, law enforcement officers can bust into your home when you're not there, riffle through your belongings, plant a recording device on your computer, and leave without notifying you, the government can now access records of your large financial transactions, such as buying a house, all in the name of terrorism.

Where were these fucking tea party jerkoffs then? Where were you?

and taxing people out of their homes for christs' sake. obama can only blame this financial meltdown on "inheritance" for so long...he's contributing to the problem in a huge way

Now here is a typical, uninformed reaction from both those on the Left and on the Right.

These protests are NOT exclusively about the health care proposals. They are about the growing threat from an over-reaching, over-regulating, over-taxing and over-tyrannical, corrupt federal government.

What is being protested against is the behemoth that has been created by ALL parties involved for the sole purpose of guaranteeing their reelection and aquiring more and more power. As the federal government gains power, the people are drained of theirs.

Time to get a clue, BadDog ... you/we are losing our country.

He's contributing alright, considering that top economic experts are now saying we are just about out of the biggest recession in over 70 years. If that holds true it will be the fastest economic turnaround in US history, no thanks to republicans though.

Yep people are just starting to wake up to the fact that this government is beholden to the special interests, instead of the American people.

That's because they receive most their campaign contributions from huge corporations, instead of the average American citizen.

Vote those bastards out (next year), and then we can push for campaign finance reform!

This government is owned by the people, not JP Morgan, Goldman Sachs, GM, and GE!

I'll be there next year 9/12.

And Obama has done MORE to EXPAND gun rights than any president in the last what 30 years?

Wow, so things will cost more money in 20 years than they cost in 10 years? Brilliant.

You are wrong, we do not have the best healthcare in the world.

Nope I disagree, I think decreased rights = decreased freedom. You can make no money at all and be free as a bird.

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/08/31/business/economy/31taxpayer.html

'Nearly a year after the federal rescue of the nation’s biggest banks, taxpayers have begun seeing profits from the hundreds of billions of dollars in aid that many critics thought might never be seen again.

The profits, collected from eight of the biggest banks that have fully repaid their obligations to the government, come to about $4 billion, or the equivalent of about 15 percent annually, according to calculations compiled for The New York Times.'

Bush bailed out the banks, not Obama. It didn't fix anything though, our economy is still a house of cards, and it's still going to come crashing down if we don't start making drastic changes(namely, balancing our budget) soon.
