Manno said the Obama song was originally part of an eight-skit assembly program performed on Feb. 27 that marked Black History Month, as well as George Washington and Abraham Lincoln's birthdays, Groundhog Day, the Chinese New Year, Valentine's Day, Mardi Gras and Dental Health Month.
"We have been informed that the lyrics of the song were sent home with the children in advance of the assembly, which was the teacher's normal procedure," Manno wrote in his letter. "There were no concerns or complaints to, during, or after the program."
The performance was reprised and videotaped on March 23 when an author who had written a book about Obama visited the school as part of its Women's History Month program, Manno said.

Why are you starting a duplicate thread on this. As I pointed out in the other thread this point is meaningless. Plus, this is a statement made by a representative of the school. This may or may not be true but even if it is it only shows that the parents were remiss - it proves nothing. So many of your posts demonstrate that you are grasping at straws.

I posted a thread because I think this is worthy of its own discussion.

Your official position on everything seems to be "it isn't important unless I say it's important", yet you accuse everyone else of being narrow-minded.

My point is this: the WHOLE THING is a non-issue. It wasn't an issue when it happened and the only parents who are now saying it IS are the ones who are not paying attention to what goes on at the school. Public schools rely heavily on parental involvement. If you AREN'T involved, then you really can't complain about what goes on. End of story.

Don't want your kids to learn any view but your own? Teach them at home, like the evangelical christians do.

Teaching kids about the president is not "partisan politics". There is only ONE president! He just happens to be democratic, GET OVER IT ALREADY.

You're quite correct ... Teaching kids about the president isn't partisan politics ... But teaching kids to chant praises to the president is. Now, with that said, go learn the difference between teaching from a historical perspective and indoctrination.

So now you have resorted to lying. You know full well that they were not teaching kids about the President but indoctrinating them by making them sing his praise and sing praise of his policies. By the way some of the lyrics were taken from a song about Jesus with Obama's name used instead. And you are comparing the school indoctrinating other peoples children with values that the parents don't necessarily agree with to a parent teaching their own child about their values - how is that a fair comparison?

funny how libs have a problem with a kid sitting silently with their heads bowed for a moment because that is indoctrinating religion. but the whole class in unison singing praises to a man is AOK. hypocracy on the highest order. oops, the US house of representatives just passed a bill that bans the word hypocracy, and several others, from use on the floor of the once great body.......isnt freedom great?

I don't remember all the school programs nor the songs nor the books about any other president.

Did they sing songs about Clinton? Either of the Bushes?

This is not the same thing... It is strange...

A cult of personality can be a danergous thing.

They do however sing songs praising Adolf Hitler, Kim Jung Il and Chairman Mao.

So what's the harm?

I'm not into the idea of teachers having students sing songs praising Obama. I think it was a stupid thing for them to do. And, I'm sure plenty of teachers have done other stupid things pushing other points of views on students. That's what this debate is about right? Whether or not the teachers were wrong? Hopefully nobody's imagining that this is something that Obama is responsible for.

It is not all the schools. My son is in highschool and he has not been exposed to anything like that either.

I think it is more of a thing that people are afraid that one day they will wake up and all kids are singing the song. Is it happening now? No.

People are looking at past coups and and watching for any trend in America to match things that happen in those countries.

I hate to burst your bubbles, but Adolf Hitler has been out of power for LOOONG time. I find it hard to believe that children are singing his praises anywhere.

Can anyone figure out the difference between kids being forced by the GOVERNMENT to sing about the leader, and ONE teacher in the whole country including a song about the President in ONE school program?

I'm sure there were songs performed in this program that praised other prominent black figures, too.

When I was in school, we sang a song that praised the (criminal) actions of a lady named Harriet Tubman. They must have been indoctrinating me to believe slavery is wrong, those bunch of NAZIS.

Really? Hitler has been out of power for a long time.... Hmm, figured he's been dead this whole time. And, come on, really? No one is saying that children sing his songs today, but they did sing his praises when he was in power. And there was a Hitler Youth Movement. But, once again I never said he was Hitler. Look at my post. I don't think he is Hitler. But, blindly following ANY leader is a sure way to destruction.

Does this look like a lone teacher?

if that video doesnt scare you something is seriously wrong with you. nevermind the hitler stuff at the end, just imagine your child having to sing a song praising any living human being like that. and for you nut cases, no it isnt the same as church songs singing praises to men. church songs are about old dead guys who have a track record that you/your family/the church you FREELY go to, support. church songs are not about some bozo politician from the most currupt political city known to man, who has a whole FIVE minute career with ZERO, let me repeat that ZERO record of accomplishment prior to becoming president. maybe they could do a song about mayor daley too. that would be awesome. sheep, sheep i tell ya. God bless our forefathers.

Do you really lack the intelligence to understand why this is a problem? The only other things I can think of are that you are just too stubborn to consider what other people say or you just want attention.

Really, this isn't rocket science.
