Teaching children about marijuana by using it with them

I have been intrigued by the question of how long it will take for marijuana to become like alcohol with regard to children. It seems pretty well accepted in most circles that it is ok to teach a child about alcohol by using it with them, i.e. a glass of wine at Thanksgiving dinner. I'm curious what people think with regards to marijuana. I'll go first and say that, in a liberated world, it would be ok to teach a child about alcohol or marijuana by using it with them at 14. What do you think the "ok" age is for the average child?

Personally I don't think it would be wise to "use" it with them, best to teach them that mj is no worse than alcohol, maybe better, yet at such an young age, as well you know, their minds are not fully developed thus it would do more harm than not, I personally feel that's it's best for one to be fully developed before using or trying any form of drug or alcohol, at which time they can make a decision weather (spelling?) to use or not, what that age would be depends on the person I suppose.

giving alcohol or drugs to children whose brain is still developing........

what a great idea!

I'm sure talk like this will help the legalization movement immensely.

I would cry tears of joy if my kid asked me to smoke mj with him before drinking alcohol! :) that being said, I believe they need to wait until they have reached a mature age, that is after the brain has been fully developed and I believe after certain point of bone growth, because of something I read one time that I can only kinda remember! Marijuana and underdeveloped bones are no buenos I believe! One of the only downsides I have read about! I would have to revisit the subject to find out exactly why?

I've never seen/read anything that says minimal use of alcohol or marijuana has a detrimental impact on a developing child. Is there anything that indicates you shouldn't use marijuana while pregnant? I think what I've seen about alcohol is that minimal use while pregnant is ok.

This is easy, as a parent I instructed my kids that, to steal a line from Coors, 21 means 21. I have never disclosed my pot use to my kids, I keep it out of sight and recommend that they steer clear of weed. They know that I looked into growing it for medical purposes, but as far as recreational/living room bong use, no, not on my watch. It doesn't help them to grow up to be successful mature adults so it is relegated to a closet topic, not what we focus on. My kids have all gone off to college, where they are exposed to weed daily, but hopefully they understand that it does not help them to reach their goals. It is like alcohol, a recreational/medical thing that must not become a primary activity, because that would distract from the important activities in life.:peace::blsmoke:

As a parent, I probably instructed my son about marijuana the same way I instructed him about masturbation... In moderation it can be a lot of fun, but too much is probably going to lead to problems. My daughter, on the other hand, never expressed an interest in either so I left the subjects alone with her.

The predominant parenting philosophy I come across amongst parents that use, is discourage, don't ask and don't tell which leads to a situation where the parent does not offer the child positive information about, what I see as, a positive human activity. And, I don't mean don't ask / don't tell in an absolute sense - most parents do ask and most children do tell - I mean that on a day to day basis they're going to play it like they kinda know there children are using from time to time but they're not going to talk about it or acknowledge it explicitly.

I've heard of many different Dr.'s tell pregnant women that they would rather have them consume cannabis instead of alcohol. In moderation of course.
