Technical Seed Question...

Hello all--

Seed question.
In my last indoor grow... I had a female plant that had a couple of hermi branches.
I think it was due to stress... not enough light... the plant was huge.
I ended up with about 20 seeds from that plant.

Can I use those seeds?
Are they feminized?
Will they become Hermi plants?

Thanks!

If you think the hermie was caused by stress, the trait might not be passed on. It sounds like your plant wasn't an obvious hermie, so maybe the resulting seeds will be plants that only have a weak hermie characteristic. I say give it a try. Tag 'em, bag 'em and save 'em. They might the greatest strain of all time...or they might be flaming hermies. Only one way to find out.

I'm confused. I'v only seen hermies pollinate other plants. know weed could self pollinate. never seen it happen early enough on my own babies to produce seeds at all

These were self pollinating... I had about 4 lower branches that i caught a couple of flowers on... caught too late.... and ended up with some seeds from those branches only. The rest of the grow was mint. My plants were HUGE... 6 footers... see my grow below. I might try to germ a couple and see what happens. It was a great strain. (BC Chronic)

My friend had 6 plants, out of those 6 plants we got prob a total of around 10 seeds. We had no males, and did not see any flowers as we inspected every day when in early flowering. So we suspet she shot out some flowers when it was getting colder out in hopes of keeping her strain alive. We hope theses seeds are females, as we have no other way of keeping this strain. It would be nice if they hermied a bit at the end too like these ones did this year, then we dont even have to pollinate our selves.

Well, if they pass the viability test (Squeeze Test) and look healthy then hell yeah! Plant 'em.
Are they feminized?
In theory, the only staminate (male) DNA donated to the seeds should have been the pistillate (female) individual's DNA, because that is all the plant has. So, the plant would have split its Chromosomes in half at the stamen and that half would have met up at the female's ovule where it would have half-ed that same DNA. So, it should be feminized, but you can see how this could possibly expose recessive traits.
Will they become Hermi plants?
If you know that they hermied because of stress, you should be safe, but there is the looming possibility that the hermaphroditic tendencies were genetic in make. If you notice that this is the case, with successive incedents, get rid of those genes like a pair of Levi's with a hole in the crotch!

Interesting... My bloom room does get chilly during lights off. Im a basement grower and i let the nightime temps dip down to 60 or so. My light on temps rarely exceed 80.

Thanks!
