TGA Subcool Vortex Questions!!!

I am considering picking up a 5 pack of Vortex from Subcool...

Anybody have any experience with this strain? Characteristics? flowering times? flower stretch? potency? flavor? etc.

I've read a lot about Subcool's gear having a lot of pheno variation, having hermie issues, and that 5-packs have a 1:4 female to male ratio...any experience supporting/refuting this? I'm kinda put-off by all these issues but i'm sure if Vortex won a cannabis cup then it cant be too terrible.

I am definitely interested in any grow journals of Vortex as well.

you can't depend on a strain that won a cup cause its just the companies best mother they could find. you don't even know for sure it came out of a pack of vortex or if its from a diffrent company all together. but you can try it like subcool says if you can't find a keeper in 5 seeds the strain is junk. although I've seen one grower say they tried atleast 30 of their seeds and find no keeper could have been a really picky grower though. some people like them but it seems to me most of the more experienced don't care for tga.

Ya it does seem like the more experienced stays away from TGA...it's too bad Subcool doesn't stabilize his strains more because most of them look and sound amazing till you hear about hermies and wicked pheno variation.

If you take some time to check on this site every seeds company have their fans & haters, review will go from pure junk to amazement for the same strain. Having actually grown 5 different strain from Subcool I can tell you he as some good genetic. Personally my favorite strain from is collection is by far Jack the Ripper I would give it a 9.5/10 review. Qwerkle did well too I'd give it an 8/10 review but its indica dominant & my preference goes for sativa dominant. I use to keep a Vortex mother plant but I replace it with a Jack the Ripper both are good sativa dominant strain but Jack is really a killer and take only a couple extra weeks to flower. Agent orange & Jilly beans both left me unimpressed. Cannabis cup is a big joke considering Barney’s Tangerine Dream won a cup & you can smoke a joint the size of a cigar of that shit without feeling anything else than a headache.

don't let the skeptics get to you, buy a 5 pack, its not gonna break the bank to do some hands on training with vortex, the bud is high quality funky/fruity sativa/indica hybrid faster flowering than most sativa's at around 55-60 days. smells range from funky rotten fruit, to poop and even tea or mangoes. the high is pretty much the same, some plants are naturally more potent with longer duration of high. overall medium yielding strain. if i were you i would go with timewreck or chernobyl, timewreck is basically a combo of the two(vortex male and chernobyl's mother plant)

my vortex pheno is sativa dom. Goes 12 weeks in flower, and triples in size the first 3 weeks. Kinda airy buds, but some of the best shit I have smoked. Out of a five pack it was the only female...might try to find a better pheno some day

I love my vortex, I bought a 10 pack but do to a security scare I only ended up with one female, and its fire.

3 females from my 5 pack. 2 phenos almost exact. Great unique flavour. Easy to grow. Took stress of moving mid flower with no herms or late nanners. Thats a cup of my Vortex in my avitar. I liked Agent Orange best, my buddies Chernoble.

Vortex is my current favorite strain. My keeper is totally Apollo dominant, goes 10 weeks, and yields pretty well, perfect for scrog. It's some of the stickiest herb i've ever come across. Impossible to break up with your fingers. Really potent, mostly in the head buzz. I love smoking it during the day. If you like super potent, exotic smelling, quick finishing sativas then buy a pack.

My only gripe against the V is that it's not easy to clone but otherwise it's some of the best shit i've grown lately. And I'm no tga fanboy either i've just had good luck with their beans. Your mileage may vary.

TGA has some of the best strains available! Haters are going to hate either way... Ive grown out almost every one of his strains and they are always as described! All of his strains smell amazing look amazing and taste amazing!!!

say's a guy who's only grown tga seeds. if this was true tga wouldn't have countless haters and its not just on riu icmag.com has more haters of tga. when you have that many people complaining about hermies and crazy pheno hunting and then you say their all as described I call bullshit on that one. I've only seen one plant come from tga that looked above average which was a chernobyl it did look damn good but looked like a low yielder. and saying "TGA has some of the best strains available!" just sounds ignorant when you've had breeders working over 30 years to create some of the best strains in the world back crossing, inbreeding, stabilizeing and hybridizeing its kinda hard to believe that a guy who breeds 1 male to several clone only strains in one generation and sells them as a strain is anyway near the best. if you ask me I'd say serious seeds, mr. nice and sensi seeds have some of the best strains but their are others with great strains. their are strains from the 80's-90's that can still compete with the best shit coming out today.

I had good female/male ratios with TGA seeds. Furthermore, I made crosses of TGA strains, and these ALSO have very good female/male ratios. My two cents...

Why do I see you in every TGA thread bashing TGA? Like wtf do you get out of talking shit on them? All the while you pump Sensi seeds and Serious seeds. Seriously? Those 2 companies haven't made a worthwhile strain in over 15 fucking years. They keep putting out the same overpriced watered down genetics while doing nothing new.

You must of not even grown out Serious back when they were good. Their Kail Mist used to be awesome until Simon bred more indica into to and even tried to enter into into the indica category in the cup. Serious has gone way downhill despite only offering 4 strains. lol

And don't get me started on Sensi. Does anyone even grow them anymore? I doubt it. Their one flagship strain, Jack Herer can be found for 10 times cheaper and much better via Sannie's Jack. $250 for a pack of Jack from Sensi!?!? LMFAO.

I can't talk bad about Mr. Nice. Shanti and Neville are heroes in the cannabis game. But honestly how many times can you grow out the same Haze/Skunk/Afghani cross?

My point is, people came in here to offer insight about Vortex and you came in here to shit on everyone just cuz you read on the internet that people reported hermies or claimed you needed to pheno hunt to find a good plant from TGA. That's some bitchmade shit if i've ever seen it.

That is true, almost every strain and breeder have their haters, but it seems like more people are hating on TGA than other breeders. Obviously you have to take anything you read on a forum with a grain of salt, just on principle, so I'm not totally dismissing Subcool, but it does make me a little hesitant.

I have been looking at JTR recently and was thinking of doing a post like this one for that strain to get some feedback...would you mind doing it here and save a stoner some work? :eyesmoke:

"...but Jack is really a killer..."

haha I see what ya did there :blsmoke:

i have 10 seeds, still haven't grown them yet, the parents i've grown. vortex is one of the best sativa dom hybrids around, not a crazy amount of variation but enough to find something you might like, its funky so it needs smell controll, sweet phenotypes are rarer, i have one fem from 2 yrs ago that smells like snapple mango and taste the same. it clone went around a few people and everyone likes it. my recent grow of chernobyl had 7 females, i'm keeping 2 of them, one is a faster maturing more indica dominant plant that smells like limes and peaches and nothing else, the other smells like lime lysol and is more sativa and spear shaped with buds. not uniform but every plant is caked in resin, smokes strong, expands alot but makes perfect candidate for vaporizing, taste and high goes through 100%. the vigor in the chernobyl is much more than the vortex, its a faster vegging plant and flowers out big, about 2x stretch maybe more.
