how do you know if you're getting enough of one nutrient? do you get your tea tested?

just received the calmag and tomorrow they'll get some. i also got some molasses and planning to add some of those to the water too. fingers crossed.

Just remember....the cal/mag is not an instant fix....it could take like 4 days before you see results....so be patient about adding nitogen at this time!
Keep a close eye for any changes.

Good luck bro!

that's cool. i decided that i'll try the cal/mag thing on one of the two and see what different it makes while keeping the other going with just water with ph 5.2-5.8. when should i use molasses? with the final watering? do they even do anything? never used them before

I think thats a good idea to use it one just one.....then you can judge your results better.
You can use molasses up to a week or two before harvest....but you could try it out on the one your not putting cal/mag on....then see if that
has any affect also.
Make sure you have unsulfered, and organic molasses if possible.
Just wondering why your running your ph at those numbers?

the molasses i have are unsulphured. sorry ph 5.8-6.5 based on the EC values given as optimal on nutes feeding schedule of a product i used in the past. I may be wrong.

I have a separate worm-composter for high N compost and high PK compost. So I use the high N compost in my veg mixes and veg teas, and the high PK compost in my soil mixes for flowering and for teas for flowering plants. I also use the high N compost tea the first 2 weeks of flower.

As far as knowing the right amounts I'm just getting started as this was a new idea for me keeping the high N and high PK compost separate. I'm pretty good at reading my plants though, so it shouldn't take me long to get an idea of how much I should be using and how good of a flower booster it will be. But I'm optimistic so far. My goal is to be able to veg and flower without having to use any kind of poop or phosphates. :-P

And you can use the unsulphered molasses with every watering, it feeds the beneficials in your soil. I use a half teaspoon per gallon of water.

cool thanks. sounds very interesting. good luck with that.

I gave one plant the cal/mag and one the molasses, let's wait and see if these mamas improve.

quick update: the one getting molasses seems to have improved a bit, the one with calm/mag not so much.

does cal/mag need more than one application to produce results?

I would depend on how bad the def is. But if it was deficient in cal/mag than it would probably need another ap. Keep using the molasses though, up until about 2 weeks from flower. That's your carb source for the microbes. Have you used a tea lately? If not they could probably use one if you just started using the molasses.

Did you mean harvest?

I haven't fed them in a week or so as someone was telling me that they may be nutes sensitive and sati vas don't need as much food as other strains.

I think that I'm late with everything though, no more than 2-3 weeks to go, so i'm thinking one or two more feeds and then just water. it should still be smokable, maybe not great but there's some frosting and it will still beat the expensive shit you find on street market here. hopefully it'll keep me going until the next batch. see how it goes.

Yea, sorry I meant harvest lol. And from the pics the smoke should be excellent. Sativas are really hard to grow. I don't grow any strains that are over 10 weeks when I can help it, just because it's a long time for me to have to worry about little things like heat and mites and stuff.

me too. it was an experiment. I had these free seeds and never tried thai or haze before, so i germinated 3 out of 5 and they all happened to be girls, when I was hoping for just one to try it. I didn't like the idea to kill 2 girls that just wanted to grow and make me smile so i went ahead
like i said in a previous post, I don't plan to use free seeds ever again as past unsuccessful crops taught me (big bud and now this thai/haze) and possibly go for mainly old carefully selected strains. too much work, electricity and shit to worry about made me realise that i should go for reliability in favour of saving a couple of bucks. it'll hopefully mean bigger crops and less headaches.

Yea I don't have the heart to throw them out either lol.

And you're right, we're always worried about what's cheapest starting off, when all that matters is what we end up with. I'm sure this'll be a nice treat for you though. I germinated 2 free Lemonese seeds that I got with my Cannatonic and Jillybeans...they took almost a week to sprout, but when I just finally potted them yesterday, the Lemonese had the best looking roots. So go figure.

Today the girls are getting the chop. They'll be what they'll be.
I usually leave the buds in a cardboard box for a week before curing in glass jars but with 4 plants I'm kinda out of space. Will it be good enough to hang them inside the tent with fan and extraction fan on? would they dry up too quickly? should i put them in a box inside the tent or without? I know they're stupid questions but you know when you change something from your working method you need reassurance, especially when the mighty green is at stake :)

Your questions aren't stupid. There are lots of ways to dry out, doesn't really make a difference, people just try to say one way is better than the other. Hanging them to dry is totally fine. When I'm ready to harvest I turn the light off in that tent for 2 days and then I pull them out and chop them and then put them back on a hangtime rack to dry. But you can hang them anywhere as long as there's air moving and it's not over 75. I try to dry around 75-70, better cure.

They've been in darkness for the last 2 days already.
My concern was the lack of air circulation inside the tent, but that should be taken care by the 2 fans, which should keep odour under control too. As it got cooler in the last few days, temp in the tent is around 65 now
Thanks dude
