Thai Haze X Skunk & Skunk#1 soil stealth grow

Hi So, this is my first grow journal. I live in the UK and am planning on first growing two plants starting off in my cupboard and ending in my attic. I ordered 10 Skunk#1 from Seedsman which should be arriving tomorrow and am getting 5 Thai Haze X Skunk free. I was going to plant one of each but am considering just growing both of the same, either the Thai or the Skunk#1. I will be leaving them in a makeshift grow area for about 4-5 weeks (or until they outgrow it), i will then switch and flower them in my attic. I am using one 125watt Envirolight (Blue) (I will try to get a HPS for flowering but space doesn't allow me to use a HID bulb atm) to veg under and will either use a HPS or a 250watt Envirolight to flower under. I am using basic potting mix i picked up from my local garden center and am using some old bottles with black plastic wrapped around them to start them in.

Well, i have had drastic changes in plan since yesterday. I didn't get the free Thai Haze X Skunk seeds (surprise surprise) so am just going to germinate 3 Skunk #1. After some further reading i learned some more about Skunk #1, and i am now regretting buying them, i was so keen to get started and they were only £9.95 but they are really the wrong strain for me at this point in time. The three that i am starting now, i am going to keep them inside for about 4/5 weeks, then put them outside. My only worry is that I'm in the UK and growing outside doesn't yield great results normally and i can only check them once a week(ish). I think i shall get some Lowryder #2 seeds and carry out my original idea with those. They will probably serve me better as they are much faster growing and smaller. Does anyone know of and journals of outside UK growers? Anyone have any input/ideas/advice? Thanks

dont worry if you are just starting out, then sk#1 is a great strain for you.
its a good old stable strain, that has been around for years, some say it was the 1st strain, sk#1.
dont worry just start 4 and hope 2 are female.
i would grow more than 2, i just planted 7 seeds and 6 were male.
some strains are faster and stronger, than sk#1 around 10 to 14 thc.
dont grumble sk#1 is a great plants to start out with, .
just start some, and get a stronger/faster strain, when you know what your doing.
why dont you just use a closet, and get a 250hps for flower, when you flower.
also i would get more flos, one isnt enuf.
i would say flos are best for vegg, just add more , the bigger the plants get.
and when its time for 12/12 get hps.
i think its a waste of time flowering with flo's unless you have min 5 t5'5.
and in that case a 250 hps would be cheaper.
good to see another uk fellow grower, were you from.
also add some perlite to your soil for better drainage.
if you ever need any help ect just ask or pm me.
are you going to start a grow j.
dont worry you will be happy with the sk#1 for now, its a good strain.
also you can plant that strain outdoor, when its a little warmer.

here are some pics of my 1st grow, of my sk#1 i grew last year.
there is nothing wrong with the strain, its just not as straong as most indicas.
outside 032.jpg i didnt grow them outdoor, they were only outside for flushing, and to take a few pics, its hard to take pics under hps."too bright".

I only started to regret it because i am very limited with space at this point in time, i don't even have the luxury of a closet. But i have to say, looking at your plants eases my mind a bit. I was browsing previous Skunk#1 grows and i just found them to be very bushy, which is exactly what i don't want. I didn't know they were mostly Sativa. I am still thinking i will put these three or four outside; if i buy some Lowryder#2 or Northern lights i think they will suit my plans better. The lighting i agree could be better. I am going to stick with CFLs for veg, when its a nice day i can put them on my windowsill for some direct sunlight. I am almost defiantly going to buy a HPS. I am strongly considering this: 600w HPS Dual Spectrum Grow Light! - Hydroponics HID! on eBay, also House Plants, Plants Seeds Bulbs, Garden Plants, Home Garden (end time 06-Mar-08 21:30:57 GMT) I can then use M/H for veg when it comes to my second grow i intend to do this summer. I will defiantly 'beef' up my grow when i can, which should be in 2 or so weeks. O yeah, im from the south east.

Well, i have set up my light and the pots to check the temps are ok. Everything seems fine atm, temps keeping at around 21c lights off and around 24/25c lights on.

The light is positioned that way because of space. It is only going to be like this for another 10 days or so. After that it will move into my attic where i can put together a more appropriate set-up.

Well, i checked them just and one of them had a root! Its just gone straight into the soil to sprout (I put it in about 1.5cm down). My soil doesn't seem to hold water very well, how wet should the soil be? I have a spray bottle thing, i just made it so the top of the soil was wet, then it soaked down. I also added another seed to the paper towel (Four in total). All have cracked apart from the one i just put in last night. How long do they usually take to break the soil? Thanks

Right, well, i now have three seeds in soil. Two went in yesterday and one just now. got one more seed in the paper towel, but that went in after the rest. How long do they usually take until growth pushes out of the soil? Thanks

Well, i now have two seedlings under my light. I have one seed in soil that hasn't come through yet and one seed still in the paper towel. The two under the light look ok i think, i have only just put them under the light, dunno if i did it to earl or later or anything, should be ok. I am really trying to not water them as over-watering has got to be the number one mistake, i have a spray bottle, and i give them each one or two sprays once a day. Only a little water actually come out so i don't think that should be a problem. Don't have any nutes yet, am thinking of getting Hesi (don't have o worry about that yet thought). And have moved the light so it is now over the plants. I think i will call today Day 1.

wow.. those are sprouting up pretty fast..
about how far away do you have them from the light.. my plants are about 6-8 inches away and they are the same size as yours.. do you think i should move them closer?

Depends what lights you have. If you have a HID light, then its probably best to keep you distance. If you are using CFLs (or an Envirolight) or fluros then you can have them inches away. My plants are about 3-4cm away. If the back of your hand can stand the heat, so can you plants. I am using a 125watt Envirolight.

Hi Everyone. My laptop broke last night so i will not be able to post pictures often/at all for about a week or so until i get a new one. But, i now have 3 seedlings under the lights, they are all doing very well. no.2 is the tallest, i planted her about 6 hours after no.1, i guess its just a faster plant. The first proper leafs are taking over now with no.2 (getting alot bigger than the first leafs, i forget the name for them) so thats a good sign i guess. The one seed still in the paper towel i will discard tomorrow if no signs of cracking appear, that will mean it has had one week. I did manage to crack open my laptop and take the fan, the girls are loving the extra fan!!! When i have time im going to analys my attic and see if i can get some more plants of a different strain, I'm thinking Lowryder#2 (sorry to say it) but they are so tempting with there lightning quick development. That would mean i would have a total of 2 Skunk#1 and 1 Lowryder outside and 1 Skunk#1 and 4 Lowryder inside. Wouldn't mind timeing it so that they finish around the same time. Thanks for reading.

Hey. THe girls are doing really well. The plant i put in the soil is the slowest grower though, she is noticabley behind the other two even though she was planted a full 24 hours behind one of them. Should be able to have some pics up around this tiem tomorrow which will include my new set-up in the attic hopefully. Thanks

Hi
Im not growing Thai Haze X Skunk & Skunk#1 as the seeds never came, am growing straight Skunk#1.

The girls are doing well, they had a 4 hour move in a sealed container and i thought they were gonna die on me but the are ok. Grow set-up has changed, am growing in a large box. Gonna scout out the attic tomorrow to see if i can grow there. Put some pics up, will have better ones tomorrow.

Thanks

Looking good man!
Be sure not to underwater.
If it's within price range for you I would definitely get that hps/mh light you were talking about. I just switched from two 40w floros to a 400w hps and my vegging has boomed literally overnight.:blsmoke: I'm just sad that my plants are really far behind from before. I'll keep watching your grow.:peace:
