Considering the growth rate of the aero vs soil, id say soil is a better choice for the mother. You want her to live long, grow slow, and stay in a veg state. Why waste the power of the aero on that? Use it to do clones in less time. It's not the mother we be smokin after all...

Ok, I started using the foxfarm nutes on Friday. The things have grown incredibly since then. I am going to have to raise the hood again (i also decided to hold up on moving to the HPS in order to increase my choices for clones).

As for smell...mine are starting to smell now. Rather, ONE of them REALLY smells. It's about 7 inches and its got some oder to it. Kinda skunky. Another one has a fainter smell that I vivdly recall! I know it was one of the better smokes I've had.

how come peoples plants are getting so tall so fast? mine are all about 8 inches and they are 5 weeks old? in other news...i have changed my grow room a little...i have added a soil pot for a mother...so im gonna be taking clones from that. as well as the fact that i have added 2 side lights for larger buds on lower parts of the plant. i also have pics of how well my babies are doing...on the next post.

well heres the pics that would upload...um..tell me what you think.
Hi vandewalle, I'm just a noob grower (about to start my first grow), but those plants look good to me ! They may not be that tall, but they seem bushy. I've been thinking about doing a similiar setup and do you mind if I ask you a couple of questions ?

I see that you added two extra side lights, I have two light holders just like those, are you using compact flours ? What's the dimensions of your box ? Since I'd also be using 2 side lights, I'm thinking that your dimensions would be good for mine also. Do you use any ventilation and/or odor control for that setup ? Did you detach the aerogarden hood from the unit and hang it on chains ? When do you plan on starting flowering ?

Thanks, and good luck with your grow ! And props to teknique for starting this thread and taking the aerogarden plunge !

i think everyone who as an aerogarden has one small plant lol...well heres the deal, yes those are the now 6 week old plants...they are about 8 inches tall. for noobgrow-i am using 100 watt equv side lights-for the box do you mean the aero itself, becasue that is like 1.5 wide and like 15 tall and like 1 back. for the space that i can actually grow in is a closet that is 4 feet wide and 4 feet back about...and like 11 feet tall. i could get a good grow in there if i used some good lights. for ventillation i have an ionic breeze from sharper image that is getting rid of the skunky smell, but replacing it with burnt air. does anyone know what to do about that? is there better deoderizer than that (besides carbon filter or charcoal?) yes i did detach the hood and hang it on chains...the hood comes right off and that *stem* that comes down from it come right off as well. well i recently changed grow areas so i am giving them another week just to ajust to their environment, but they will be about as large. any other pointers from anyone to make this the best aerogarden grow ever would be great

Those pics were taken yesterday. They are 4 weeks from seed today, germinated in the aero. Except for the baby, all are in the 6-9 inch range...

...and I still haven't moved them into the cabinet setup with hps.

They seem to be just showing sex now and its looking like the skunkiest one is a male. I'm waiting a little to see. But, any of them that is a male I am going to move to soil and put them under a lite 24/7. I'll try and keep them alive until any females are harvested, then I'll move the males under the light. If they die, they die.

Its just the smell coming off that plant...is just toooooo much to kill off.

What an f'ing dilemma!

so does anyone know if the aergoarden will work as a propigation tray thingy for new clones? is this kinda what its designed to do? also could you infact get a good harvest if you start flowering one week after roots have been established?

I believe I read somewhere that you CAN in fact use it for clones, or maybe not? I don't actually have the machine yet so I don't know the structure. In fact this was probably a useless reply lol. But I'm keeping up with everyone's progress.
